Dry January
« on: February 01, 2014, 04:58:30 PM »

Anyone ?  :-\

I sort of knew about this in my peripheral gaze but can't understand why anyone needs to stop drinking - if it's a problem stop buying it and when socialising a simple 'no thanks' should surffice !  I have never had problems when refusing alcohol, I'm known as cheap to take to the Pub.  ;D because fizzy water or fruit juice will last me all night.  Of course more Pubs. serve tea and coffee during the day and evening too which is helpful!

Now a Pub that serves milk-shakes would really suit me  ;)

What made you post this then CLKD?

I often have a dry January - it sort of creeps up on you - drinking in December and over Christmas and new Year. For me it coincides with needing to diet for the same reasons and stopping alcohol is a good way (allegedly) to lose weight since alcoholic drinks are v high in calories.

What do you mean you can't understand why anyone needs to stop drinking?!!!  You've just answered your own question - "no thanks" is what I do - and I've just given my reasons above. Another - it's good to have some self discipline and gives my liver a rest - and - I am not one who drinks a lot either but post-meno and on HRT it has more of an effect I've found.

You've never had a problem when refusing alcohol? Nor have I - that's why I can have a dry January  ;D. My husband is still quaffing away but I decline.  As for buying it - well I haven't bought any but it's still in the house!

I haven't had a drink since midnight on Dec 31st...

Was going to celebrate today it being 1st Feb but the migraine has put paid to that - it will come back with a vengeance if I have a drink tonight...

There's always tomorrow!!!

A whole month, that's a bit drastic. Lol.  I've not had an alcoholic drink for a week, but I'm having one tonight.   :)

I was always thought of as the party pooper on nights out with the girls. I always alternated alcohol with soft drinks. Their weekends were wrecked with hangovers, mine was just dandy. Never understand folk who can't say no.

As I passed the daft teenage years I always knew when to stop. And no, not because I had fallen over  ;D
During the times when I was trying to get pregnant, being pregnant or breast feeding or just looking after young children I did not drink and it never bothered me at all.

Now I drink when I want, not a lot and never spirits. I don't think about giving up as its not an issue. I have just had a large glass of wine and enjoyed it but later I will put on the kettle and have a cuppa. It's not an issue. My kids also have a balanced view of alcohol and rarely have I had to deal with them while they were drunk. I think that's because we were very laid back with regards to them drinking. They could have a drink at home and that took away a lot of the thrill of under age drinking.
My son once told me it was very difficult to rebel as there was little to rebel over  ;D.
That did make me laugh as I guess he had me sussed at that point.

Everything in moderation.....except cream eggs  ;D

We don't have any alcohol at home - I only drink in the pub - much safer that way I reckon.

Well I had no idea it was an organisation - it was just something I generally do in January!! Pity I didn't know about that but not sure about how it raises money though?

I've just looked at the website and I see it's for those who maybe have a problem with alcohol which I don't!! Good idea for those who do, but we all have our reasons.....
