hrt and discharge
« on: January 27, 2014, 10:25:30 PM »

I have been on low dosage hrt for about a month now and the last week I have been having a discharge. At first I thought it may be a bleed but nothing has come of this. Is this normal?

What sort of discharge, clear, brown etc etc. Can be quite normal when taking Oestrogen, depending on what sort it is :)

Annemarie - Think it's normal, just the juices flowing again, the reason VA is helped by HRT?
If you are worried see your GP.

Help me again :(

Went back to docs as discharge has not stopped since 19th January with spotting now and again, he changed my HRT on Friday 21st Feb to Premique low dose 0.3mg.  I am now bleeding he has also organised a scan.  I am feeling thoroughly fed up now I am beginning to wish I had not started the blessed HRT.  Please please is this normal :'(

Personally I think he has jumped the gun with a scan but not to worry! Break through bleeding is really common with HRT and although a scan is a must for post meno women not on HRT drs usually wait and see if you are HRT.

I'm a bit confused- was this a bloody discharge or just a normal 'wet' clear discharge that you posted about at the start of your thread?
That's what you'd expect taking oestrogen.

If you are now bleeding after having stopped 1 sort of HRT and are just stating on a new kind, then bleeding is to be expected depending what you are taking and the level of the 2 hormones in your body now. Any changes to the usual amount of either oestrogen or progestogens can cause spotting/bleeding.

Last period was over 12 months ago discharge was brownish at first but then it became a bleed like period early in the mornings. Just feel I have got rid of sweats and now just bleeding all the time feeling low  :(

Not sure how old you are? If you are under 50 then a light period even after a 12 month gap is not that unusual. I had one after an 18 month gap at almost 54.

I'd try not to worry because I'd say you are experiencing 'teething problems' getting the right type and dose of HRT for whatever stage of meno you are at.

What was the HRT you were on before the doc changed to Premique?

As the others have said - it is very common to bleed when starting a conti HRT especially after you have been without a period for over 12 months. After all you are stimulating your womb lining again with oestrogen and although the progestogen is included in the tablet, it can take the body a while to adjust to the new hormones it's getting!
