Not doing well after my last period
« on: January 25, 2014, 11:13:05 AM »

Since my last period I have not been doing well.  I am slowly coming out of the depression but the anxiety is terrible.  I forced myself to go out yesterday with my husband and spent several hours doing things.  I struggled all day --  I started to get a headache yesterday and it's turned into a full blown migraine today.  I am full of anxiety and am alerted to every bodily symptoms.  Why am I feeling so bad??  Usually it takes me a couple of weeks to feel better after a period but this seems to be dragging on. Not only am I trying to cope with the anxiety but now I'm having to cope with the migraine which is making my anxiety worse.  I went through 10 months of near bliss whithout a period but now I am suffering again.  So sick of this.

Maybe you are anemic as well? Try taking a strong iron supplement. You can only get those from the pharmacy. I take ferrous sulphate, two to three tablets a day. If you have not had your period for a long time your body is quite in a turmoil.

Also going outside catching some daylight might help. Or do some very basic gardening, that helps too. Or go window shopping outside to catch some daylight and take your thought off the predicament you are in right now.

BreadFruit - You are so sweet to reply to my post so quickly.  You're right, my body must be really out of balance.  I am taking iron supplements and magnesium.  When I feel strong enough I'm going to see my GP.  I am just in such a state rigt now and hate the thought of having to get up and face another anxious morning.

Bless you. Have a great day

Hi I had a uterine ablation when I was 41  (5 years ago) and my periods never started again so I have started on hrt trying second type as first didn't do anything, anyway I suffered with anxiety before the peri but my anxiety is out of control and I feel awful all the time. Know how you feel as everything bothers me I feel a complete wreck. So sorry you feel this way too as I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy. I struggle every day but still try not to give in to it. I know that feeling of dread when you wake up each day. Hope you get the support you need, my Dr was really sympathetic. Sending you lots of love

Hi angelindski.  I assume you are peri meno and not on HRT?  ARe you getting any other meno symptoms? I think it is quite common for your periods to come and go throughout peri meno and the hormones fluctuations can be particularly awful.
The other thing that is known to make you feel depressed and lacking energy is a lack of Vitamin D.  The only real source of vitamin D is sunlight and in winter we get very little of this so supplements can be very helpful.  Apart from anything else Vit D helps us absorb calcium which is very essential at our time of life.
I used to teach a dance class for adult beginners and I had two GPs who used to attend -  after one of the classes, we were discussing our energy levels and they both said that after reading some research published in the BMJ (British Medical Journal) about the benefits of taking Vit D, they are prescribing Vitamin D for patients who come in to see them who are complaining of fatigue and low mood - particularly in winter.
You might want to give HRT a try if your anxiety continues - it can really help.

Hi nicros,
I'm sorry you are suffering too. How did you feel after your uterine ablation?  Were there any complications?  I ask because I'm considering having one myself. How long have you been on HRT?  Do you think it's helped to relieve some of the anxiety or is it making it worse?  I'm considering HRT and want to discuss it further with my GP when I eventually get round to making an appointment. I'm sorry you're struggling every day (I seem to be doing the same) -  If I can help please pm me.

sending love and hugs xxx

Hi DG
I'm perimenopausal although I thought I was nearly through that stage as I hadn't seen a period for 10 months.  Anyway, they are back again and since then I've had a terrible time.  I went out on Friday for  several hours and when I got home a migraine started.  The next morning had a horrible panic attack - this anxiety is relentless lately --   Had the migraine for 2 days - it eased off yesterday and completely went away in the evening.  Anyway, this morning I wake up and I'm having a period again!  It's been less than 3 weeks! Now I have to go all through it again.  I am really fed up with it all.  I am not on HRT but I plan to give it a go.

I have recently started taking Vit D - I'm doing everything I can in that area.

Hugs!

PS Made an appointment with my GP for Feb 6th @ 9-40am

Hi angelindskie
I had very similar headaches/migraines, sometimes for days before I got a bleed during my early peri stage - I think this is very common.  When I was diagnosed as peri meno and went on HRT, things settled down.  I would definitely get your FHS level checked at the GP to see if you are peri and consider HRT.  Start on a low dose - possibly Femiston Sequi 1/10 or  try  Oestrogel with Utrogestan so you can increase dosage if needed.  DG x

Hi angelindskie

I also had pre-menstrual migraines which started up when I was peri-meno - 2-3 days of feeling sick, heavy-head, noise intolerance etc. I still get them sometimes on the progestogen part of HRT, or after changing over to the oestrogen only part, but only mild ones.

I agree with Dancinggirl - HRT should even out your moods and alleviate some of your anxiety - provided you have the right type!
