pins and needles and pain in hips. OUCH
« on: January 12, 2014, 06:50:52 PM »

Sorry to be a moaning minnie again, fed up of being in pain. Firstly I have had Ostoarthritis in my hips, hands etc for     years  but recently- well about a year Ive had absolute intense pain in my groin area-l like being stabbed, its dreadful and it can make me shout out in shock and pain, its unexpected and with no warning either. The pain makes me sick and dizzy and I sleep for hours after a bout, its becoming regular now- several times a day. I have pins and needles in the bottom of my spine all the time but not radiating down my legs so it cant be sciatica?, I cant walk without limping badly . Ive eeen the GP but all he does is prescibe painkillers and no referrals. I am totallly fed up- I cant even have a boogie when some musics on the radio now!!! (and I LOVE dancing)
Has anyone experienced this sort of thing.? Just dont know what to do. :-\

I posted a reply and then it disappeared, blasted laptop  ::)

Chronic groin pain is from the hips.
'hip' pain is from the back.
There is a nerve with a very long name that runs down the front of the thigh as the sciatic nerve runs down the back.  I get sudden, intense, burning pain down the left thigh in the night, which makes me cry silently, it's too instant to shout out.  Taking pain relief made no difference as it is deep in the night.  I sleep on my front so this causes pressure on that particular nerve.

Can you refer yourself to a physio who will check your gait?  You may require a shoe raise on the affected side to give some relief.  Do you take the prescription recommended by your GP?

I was going to suggest physio. Sounds as if something is trapped. Physiotherapist may well know the problem & suggest a solution. If not can you ask to be referred to specialist?

Camp out at the doctor's until you get a referral.  You should not be in such severe pain without them even trying to find out what's causing it.

hubby took me to Next before to get a few  bits and bobs for my sons wedding this weekend!!!! It was dreadful, my 'hip' felt like it had come out of joint and I just folded over the till area,  felt sick and tired after. The sudden pain is excrutiaitng.
Im currently taking co codamol- quite a high dose. I see the physio about my rotator cuff injury and she is concerned about this as well but she cant make any diagnosis, when I had the rotator cuff surgery  on my shoulder I chatted to the surgeon who said he was very concerned about the condition of my bones- he wouldnt say why (so infuriaitng) I had a dexa scan after vis my GP and dont have Ostoperosis, so I am at a loss to know whats going on. I see the physio next Weds so I will push again, also see consultant for a check up on my shoulder then too.
Weebles wobble but they dont fall down! gosh I do feel like a weeble these days, Just think that 2 years ago I was out walking and doing pilates and yoga and was really fit. I hate being  like this. :'(

The flexor muscles over the hip may be lax due to lack of oestrogen. The hip is unlikely to 'come out of joint' spontaneously.  It could be the feeling of a muscle clicking that causes sudden pain a bit like neuralgia in the face.

Could you see a sports physio., perhaps at your local Gym/Leisure centre.  Your NHS Physio can suggest to your GP that you require an X-ray of this area.

Would Neurofen gel rubbed gently over the area help?

Maybe a hip impingment http://www.sportsortho.co.uk/left-navigation/conditions/hip/hip-impingement

Your GP had a duty to have this investigated with symptoms this bad, have you blood tests, Xray and MRI?

You pysio should be your last port of call after you have had investigations, then the physiotherapist will know what he/she is dealing with or not dealing with as the case maybe.

I am amazed that you have been fobbed off with just pain killers.

What would I do without oyur support and help?
I made an appointment with the GP- again, went to ASDA and I struggled to walk, sort of baby steps, teeny ones. Ooooh it was painful, like a needle sticking up from my joint into my bone. On way back I popped into surgery to make this appointment. Its on Monday, I will let you know how it goes.
Thanks again.  :foryou:

I'm getting referred to a  physio and an MRI and bone biopsy- he wants to  rule  out anything untoward, GP siad that he felt my Arthritis had got to such a point now that he feels that a replacement joint is needed. So watch this space ladies....
Maybe painfree soon. OH, happy days eh! :D

Hi Valiant - did you find that your dancing the other day aggravated your hips?

I was more waddling than my usual dancing- just wiggle it as they say! I do have a lot to wiggle these days, maybe a bit too much!
I know I souldnt but I cant wait to get the ball rollonng with the replacement- assuming that that is what it is. Ive had to  put up with constant pain for many years but lately oh boy, its been dreadful, unexpected agony.
Ive not been on the forum for a few days, babysitting our new Grandson who needs to embrace the concept of sleep and to understand that Grandma needs her sleep, (last night watched catch up Call the Midwife, World War I -the new one and the house doctor- loooong night!)the  house looks like a bomb site- its amazing how such a little chap can make such a mess. However, just a lovely smile and I'm smitten. Home today yippeee! Sleep- off to bed  for catch up now!
