Silly question perhaps!
« on: January 11, 2014, 12:13:17 PM »

Sorry if this sounds silly but to the experts amongst you.......... in your opinion how long or quick does it take for HRT to kick in and work?

I have been feeling low whilst on Femoston and have started Indivina only yesterday.

My (stupid) question is this - two days in and today feeling very depressed so now I think - could the Indivna now be causing this after a second day or possibly still the after effects of the Femoston conti?

Sorry if that doesn't make sense at all but hope it does?

My head seems to be all over the place these days and I find it very hard to function but the depression this morning was awful and all I wanted to do is curl up and sleep.  I have so many things I need to be getting on with and just can't seem to apply myself and that is making me tearful.

I feel sometimes that life is just too much for me although to be honest am struggling with debts so possibly its the constant badgering from companies phoning me day in day out that is causing this.

Sorry ladies.  Not a good day and I just want to feel good again.

Just to add I am convinced my depression is  hormonal as suddenly I am feeling a bit better, even found myself humming just now!

GP put me on AD last year (sertraline) but don't want to go down that route again as felt so so sleepy

I think it would be a bit soon for your new HRT to be causing depression. I also think you have answered your own question without realising it. You are under pressure because of your debt and there is nothing worse than money problems. I do sympathise as I have watched helplessly as my son's business went bust and he eventually went bankrupt. He is only 24 and it was a complete nightmare. I had to watch him struggle with depression but he seems to be finally moving on now.

If you can get help with your debt then the pressure will ease and you will feel better. Meno is difficult enough to cope with and anything else can feel overwhelming.

I am sure someone else will be able to help you more with the HRT that you are taking.

No question here is silly!

It is too soon to notice a difference  ;) ......... hormones alter all the while.  How is your diet?

I agree with HB, try & get some help regarding the debts. Nothing worse than money worries hanging over you.  Meno is hard to deal with too, nobody warned us how bad we sometimes feel as a result. HRT takes a while to kick in, so doubt it's that which is causing your depression.

Is there someone, a friend, partner or relative maybe, who can give you emotional support during this time?

~Thank you so much for your kind support.

I am going to talk to some advice/support organisations as recommended by the credit card people so will address that on Monday. I have, in all honesty, been living with this for a few good months now and it's been awful.

On top of that, with HRT side effects/meno symptoms and being single parent, plus caring for elderly relatives, I guess it's only normal that I would get down. !

I do feel a lot better since this morning which is one good step and thank you for your lovely replies.

Honeybun - I am so sorry to hear what your son went through at such an early age and so sad that someone enterprising can be affected by all this recession etc.  I am pleased however to hear he is moving on, he's got a lovely mother!

Have a lovely weekend ladies
Thanks x

Like CLKD says - there aren't any silly questions here.

I think the Citizens Advice Bureau can be really helpful in situations like this, are they in your list of people to speak to?

You say you got the list of people to speak to from the credit card people, does this mean that you have already spoken to the firms you owe money to?  If you have, this is good, as it means they are aware of your situation and of the fact that you are trying to do something about it.

Hope things improve for you soon

My son started off with CAB. They were very helpful and pointed him in the right direction.
One thing I did learn through all the sorry mess was that there are many companies out there who advertise debt consolidation help. Be very careful because sometimes you can end up in a bigger mess as the fees they charge (carefully hidden ) are horrendous. Go to a government scheme as they are free.
Sorry a bit off topic but helpful I hope.

Stepchange are good http://www.stepchange.org/ChangingLives.aspx?WT.srch=1&WT.mc_id=200012&WT.seg_1=stepchange&gclid=CMmoyODR9rsCFc7JtAod-DoAWQ  I think they used to be called Debtline or something like that. They are a charity.

Hi Londongirl

I know we have discussed HRT before but apologies I can't keep everyone's circumstances in my head!

As the others have said there are issues in your life that are making you feel down. However as I think I've mentioned with both the Femoston and the Indivina you are taking a synthetic progestogen all the time. Some women are susceptible to what are known as "continuous low-grade progestogenic side effects". I can't say whether this is affecting you but it is a possibility that the progestogen tips the balance between feeling you can cope and not.

If you continue to feel worse than you did before and it doesn't improve then perhaps you would benefit from a cyclical HRT and a different progestogen ( I think I've recommended this already).

However looks like you might be feeling better so long may this last!

You may need to access more help for the elderlies in your Life.  Start with their/your GP, look at AgeUK leaflets, their Charity shops have them; CAB; District Nurses; how much support do you need as a single parent, again CAB can help.

Thank you all so much for your kindness.

Yes I know of Stepchange and am going to contact them on Monday.  I had been in touch with Payplan but wasn't too happy about a few things they were advising.

It's a hard thing to admit failure and I feel a failure in some ways now, being heavily in debt as it's almost an embarrassment to me, particularly when around people who are not, so I become a recluse of sorts but with time I am finding that I can survive and will do and life isn't about material things to me anyway, it's about heart and soul.

Thank you all so much for such a warm response.  I will get there somehow.

Love
Anna

There are organisations that will help you back from this. There is no shame in having made a mistake and you will be able to sort things and move forward.
No one need know about your business unless you choose to tell them. Don't shut yourself away there really is no need.
