Migraine auras without the headache
« on: January 08, 2014, 12:31:26 PM »

Hi

Edited- I have been getting migraine auras without headaches, for a few years now, say 2 or 3 a year.

I've been getting migraine auras without the headache more frequently, lately.

I read various things online, but nothing really answered my question.

I have been taking HRT since 22nd October, I've been taking femoston 1/10, but it hasn't been sufficient to stop flushes, sweats, and low moods.

I have an appointment on the 9th with my doctor. I want to ask her for Femoston 2/10, as it looks like I need a stronger dose.

Would these migraine auras without headache stop me getting the medication?

As far as I know my blood pressure is on the low side of normal, it was always on the low side for years, but I have not had it checked recently.

Thanks.

Take a list to your GP and go through the questions.  It may be that on a higher doseage these auras will stop and you will get some relief from other symptoms.  Do let us know!

Hi

I dunno if the auras have got more frequent since starting the Femoston.
Sorry if this wasn't clear in my first post.

If so, could the higher dose femoston bring on actual migraines?

I'd hate that.

Thanks.

I used to get terrible headaches laterally when on the pill . They would start with an aura that reached huge proportions and meant I had to lie down. I stopped the pill and the headaches stopped but the Auras continued.  Fast forward 15 years and I started HRT , Auras still occur about 4 or 5 times a year but no headache and my Hrt dose has been upped from 75 to 100 within last 6 months, basically in my experience the hrt has not made them any worse and no recurrence of headaches - however it is Estrogen only.

It's impossible to say how any individual will react. However if you think it might be a problem then changing to transdermal HRT (gel or patch) could be an option since this is recommended for migraine sufferers.

Here's what it says under A-Z of health conditions (blue menu on left)

Migraine
Migraine is often triggered by hormonal fluctuations and therefore may occur around the time of a period. Such migraine may improve at the time of the menopause. Some women find that migraine may be triggered by the daily hormone fluctuations which can occur with oral (tablet) HRT so the transdermal (patch or gel) route is usually preferred with a history of migraine.

I have always had migraines but they decreased when on HRT (tablets). Everyone is different - you may have to suck it and see.
