Wombat - we went to Barnard Caslte for antique shops.  Our 1st visit to the area.  Curlew everywhere, green plover, I saw 2 red grouse but DH was driving carefully across the moors.  Went to Brough for the castle and home-made farm ice-cream.  Went to a walled garden/nursery.  Walked.  Rested.  Not close to the coast.

Suzicals - haven't been to Devon for years, well down on your parents anniversary.

It was great thanks but very wet!!! Not all the time....  I live in Devon but this was a different part to where we live. For those who can't get away much - even a night away seems like a holiday if you can possibly make it and does wonders for feeling of well-being I think. Away from routine and daily worries - or at least can help put worries in perspective.

Sounds great CLKD - all those birds. I had to Google Barnard Castle because I didn't know where it was!

I've never been either - is it worth a visit? It's almost 300 miles from here.

If you like wild and woolly.  Wouldn't go again unless it is for trout fishing in the reservoirs.  Barnard Castle is built on a steep hill, bit like Broadway in the Cotswolds.  People are friendly.  Lots of gardens to visit, Museums and derelict sites ……… I prefer Derbyshire …...

Thanks! Might pop across next time I'm on the coast - it's not that far from Saltburn by the look of it.

Yes, that's what I meant - it's not that far if I've already travelled almost three hundred miles  ;D
