HRT - not working yet!!

Hi all
I've been on HRT - Elleste Duet 2mg for 3 weeks and it doesn't seem to be working yet! I know I am probably being very impatient but have been reading that people's symptoms often get better within a week or so! I was put on this due to a premature menopause (I was 43 yesterday!)
My hot flushes during the day are slightly better but I'm still getting very bad night sweats!
Presume I will be told to keep with the tabs for a while longer??
Can anyone help or advise??

We're all different, but usually takes a bit longer. I would wait a while yet.

Patches generally work quicker than pills so it is a bit soon. I understand that you are impatient, I am too but keep going. It can take up to three months before you can really say if they suit or not.

I'm also going through premature menopause and recently started HRT (39).It can take a few weeks to work though I've heard that for younger women higher doses of HRT are often needed. Have you spoken with a consultant or a GP who is quite experienced in this area ? My GP has referred me to a consultant who I'm seeing i nthe new year so it will be interesting to see what she says.

It's usually patches which work quickly on hot flushes and sweats. It seems as if HRT in pill form does take longer to be effective - try not to be downhearted - it is still early days and hopefully you will see some improvement soon as your oestrogen levels rise.

Hi ogs
I'm on Evorel Sequi patches 50 though think my GP puts everyone on the same one...
From great advice on this site and my personal family/health history I'm hoping to change onto an oestrogen only patch together with Utrogestan tablets for progestogen.Whilst I'm feeling slightly better and sleeping better I still feel maybe a higher dose is needed. I'm still having some symptoms plus concerned about osteoporosis and have read plus my GP says that higher doses are often needed in premature menopause because of the osteo risks to give your body what it should be getting anyway.
What type are you on?

Hi Anna123
Im on a combined tablet of elleste duet - the higher dose of 2mg. To be honest I wasn't even given an option of whether I wanted tablets/patches etc! Think I was in so much shock and feeling so rubbish that I just took what I was given! I have researched these tablets and they have quite good feedback so suppose I will stick with them for a bit!
Ironically I work in a doctors surgery so could ask someone there but for some reason I am slightly embarrassed about discussing the early menopause! In fact I have only told a couple of people!!

I tell everyone I meet that it the hormones! I have to or they will just think I'm a total b@@ch without understanding why!! Funnily enough the most understanding are husbands of menopausal women! Younger women just look at me like I'm 100. Great to be twenty something and feel invincible!!
