Thanks so much Hurdity.

I take the utrogestan orally. I've considered taking it vaginally but there seem to be a few people on here who have had problems with that method so I'm a bit nervous. Again, it's all trial and error I guess. I'm just enjoying feeling well for the first time in over a year and am so worried about rocking the boat. It took all my courage to take the 300mg last night. Menopause has turned me into a raging hypochondriac! I'll see how I go with the oral dose now that you've okayed it. (Your advice on this site has kept me sane over the last few months!) Thanks also for the advice re the scan. The gynae suggested having the Merina fitted while they were already poking around up there...  :o
I've got options I guess so I'll see what the 300mg does.
So grateful for all help and support this site has  :)

I am taking utrogesten orally.  It makes me q bloated tho and I have put on a bit of weigh around my middle.  Are there less side effects from the gel as it doesn't pass trhough the system?

Hello all, I have been on the oestrogel (3 pumps) and Utrogestan (1 tablet vaginally every other night) regime now for 2 months now after finally making the decision to go for it.  I am 50 and no idea where I am in the Menopause as I had an ablation 5 years ago after very heavy and frequent periods.  I've been getting lots of symptoms for some years so presumed I am perimenopausal but had some blood tests last month and the Doctor said to continue with 3 pumps as my oestrogen levels were normal and that my FSH level was very high at 79.6 so I am peri or post...  Guessing I will never know when I am actually post, or if I ever need to know?

The main reason for this message is that I've been getting awful reflux so started on omeprazole, but this gave me a very tight chest (or the reflux did as I'm asthmatic!) so I dropped that and am now just guzzling gaviscon and upping the exercise/healthy diet regime.  But I've been wondering, I have read so many other women getting reflux amongst the other symptoms (of which mine seem to be plenty like everyone else), could the reflux be due to taking oestrogen or is it purely a menopausal symptom (assuming no other lifestyle factors)?

If my reflux and other symptoms continue while on Estrogel, would I then gradually increase the dose until my symptoms disappear or should I wait a full 3 months to review?  I have certainly slept better since starting the gel and I don't have any hot flushes any more, but I do have irritability, brain fog, strange weak limbs in the morning etc.  I wasn't sure if I just accept the benefits now with the current dose or if I am aiming for a utopian catch-all effect?!!  Thanks for listening to my waffle  :)

I changed from Evoral Conti to oestrogel (1 pump morning and 1 evening) and Utrogestan (1 in the evening) about 4weeks ago

I am having a rough time atm anyway as my mum was ill in hospital then died

I am queasy in the mornings to the point of vomiting and in the evening I have heartburn and more queasiness - plus a rotten 'almost' headache, sort of wooliness

So can I up or down either of them to reduce the queasiness/headache?

It is the Utrogestan making you queasy, I use 12 per month 100mg vaginally every other month and I actually dream that I am being sick and wake up gagging, horrid stuff, but unfortunately necessary.

Hi Lulu

Sorry to hear about your problems. FSH is usually suppressed by oestrogen so not sure why yours has recorded as high if it was measured from the same blood sample. The main thing is to go by symptoms. The blood tests are not necessary and in any case are not accurate. Just a point in time and also partly dependent on when you applied your gel, and where on the body etc. If your menopausal symptoms are controlled (ie flushes and sweats being the main ones) then the dose is right.

Once you start HRT, if you were peri-menopausal then you will never know exactly when you reached menopause - but this doesn't matter!

I can't help with the indigestion but I did have an idea that if you take too many anti-acids it can make things worse? Also can hinder absorption of vitamins and minerals from the gut? Not sure what Gaviscon has in it but I tend to use the standard chalky indigestion tablets when I get symptoms, as the least invasive non-drug treatment which does the trick for me.

Also I can't see that the oestrogel or utro (taken vaginally) would cause this but more likely your changing body perhaps, and as you say diet and exercise will help. If you are overweight this can make it worse. High fat diets, alcohol and rich food can also cause this. However i'm not an expert on this as I don't really get it except mildly! There are threads on this topic in the general health section.

I can see this post. Can you indicate which posts you did not get replies to? Perhaps bump them to the top?

julie55, is it this post you didn't get an answer to? I'm afraid I can't answer myself (not on any progesterone) but hopefully someone else will see it now. Things do get missed sometimes!

Julie55, sorry your post got missed. You shouldn't deviate from the standard dose of utrogeston without the agreement of your doc and/or regular scans. Some people who are progesterone intolerant use less and are fine but it might be that you're not. If your lining builds up you're at greater risk of cancer. If you think utrogeston is responsible for the ringing in your ears (is it a known side effect in the patient info?) I would use it sequentially for 2-3 months (200mg for 12 days) so you can see if it makes a difference when you're it on it. If utro is responsible then either a long cycle or see if you're better with a different progestin. I have ringing in my ears too but I've had it for many years, it started well before meno.
