Sammiejane- the bcp Yaz and Yasmin contain drospirenone which is an anti androgen and considered to be hair friendly. In terms of your vaginal problem, I've just started using a product called Intrarosa, I find it the best va product available - very gentle and effective. You could also ask for e-string, it's a ring which sits inside the vagina and releases a continual dose of oestrogen so you don't have to remember to use anything. Some women find it is really good at controlling their symptoms.

I'm coming off HRT, it's totally screwed me up.. :(

I'm so sorry to hear this Anaise and I see you are new so  :welcomemm: .

Maybe introduce yourself properly in the new members section ( or this one) with a new thread and tell us a bit more about yourself, where you are in menopause, what your periods are doing, what sort of hRT, what symptoms you're getting and what led you to start HRT ( just a few things  ;D !).

Then we might be able to help you identify a different type of hRT if this is what you need for your menopausal symptoms?

Hi, are you a doctor Hurdity? It just seems like you give a lot of advice on this forum. Whilst not wishing to offend, I generally only seek advice from trained practitioners.

i think anaise is voicing her concerns and or opinions as we all do ! unfortunately advice of professionals has to be followed !

my menopause clinic will not under any circumstances allow me the combined pill instead of hrt even though i'm only 40 however to old for the pill.

we have agreed on testosterone which i'm hoping will improve my hair loss as my levels are low 0.7 even though estrogen has gone from 368 on week to 113 the next this is normal and will fluctuated but they said the main thing is i am obsorbing enough to protect my bones . ovestin she has said can use up to 3 times a week or as little as once and can also do reload dose of every night 2 weeks but up to me to feel comfortable . my plan is to add testosterone see how i go i'f hair shedding worse increase the gel to 3 pumps if still no better then add in progesterone and if no better then i am stopping hrt and will protect bones etc through metabolic clinic . so i will see how i go and for those ladies that keep saying utrogestan causing hair loss my menopause lady said it dose the cause hair miss but doses tho grow the hair either , estradiol ladies on the other hand can trigger hair shedding ! hair loss and i have this risk with testosterone so i would love to hear from you if you have found testosterone to improve your hair loss /shedding and which one u take x

Anaise - I think the word "advice" is a bit subjective and to Sammiejane - "advice from professionals has to be followed" - well actually it doesn't.  I think the key factor is "choice".  There is no way I would blindly follow a Doctors, surgeon, financial advisor or any "so called expert" or anyone else's "advice" without doing my own research first or after what they said to ensure that it concurred with other peoples knowledge, comment or supporting article or that something that they have done or said meant that I felt I trusted them.
I have encountered several "doctors" who have given the wrong advice or incomplete advice and so have plenty of ladies here - you just have to find the threads, there are loads.  The "professionals" in meno vary in knowledge understanding and experience just as in other walks of life.

This is a forum where people, share knowledge, experience, and post links to supporting articles (Hurdity and BeaR post just off the top of my head are names who post from supporting medical articles) , plus give their opinions on situations and share "anecdotal stories".  Those of us who ask questions or post what is happening are looking to others who have that knowledge, experience and want to share their experiences with us to help us, nothing else. Each one of us has varying degree of knowledge/experience and opinion.  There are ladies on here who work in/have worked n doctors practices, pharmaceuticals, clinics, science, counselling etc all sorts of positions which can help menopausal women and are able to share what they know.

All of us looking for "answers" or to confirm something we are experiencing have a "choice" as to what decide might be right for us.  There is nothing which says it is "gospel" or that it is "advice to be followed at all costs": it is a forum for discussion and it has a moderator who will jump on anything untoward. What I would say is that I would trust women, who have experienced all sorts of things in the menopause, all kinds of treatments, read all sorts of articles for their jobs or even just because they have an interest, who had all sorts of experiences with doctors prescribing medications and women who have had all sorts of experiences and reactions to those treatments to provide a good basis on which I can make my own decisions.

But at the end of the day they are my decisions and mine alone and I have discounted doctors theories which turned out to be just plain wrong!  Hurdity has been posting on this forum for about 10 years and clearly has a lot of knowledge and experience and there are plenty of others (I cant remember all the names at the moment) who regularly post more medical type posts so why you would single her out I'm not sure.  At the end of the day, it is someone's choice as to whether they listen to what anyone on the forum has to say, but to be honest, I cannot for the life of me see why anyone would come here to a forum like this looking for answers, or posting experiences if they already have a preconceived idea that "they only take advice from trained practitioners" or if they don't want anyone else's comment on what they have said.  Its just not that type of forum.  If anyone disagrees, feel free to say, never any offence taken, everyone is welcome to their opinion  xx

Wow Ladybt thanks for your articulate and well discussed post! I can't add anything to that - except thanks also for your kind words (not suite 10 years though - more like 8 with a few months off somewhere early on  ::) ). Yes we - as members posting, all contribute a huge amount of experience, advice, knowledge and support whatever our background and in whatever way we can - usually politely and respectfully, even if sometimes strongly!

You're welcome Hun, but about my post, my point is, the same thing applies to all the posters here - we do it to share with others so it might give some insight and help; what anyone chooses to do with that information is up to them.  That's what the forum is all about, which I suppose like anything is easy to forget.
I often check out the "stats" bit on the bottom of the forum front page; right at the bottom ays "forum info page" and it never ceases to amaze me.  Today it showed:
523508 Posts in 25410 Topics by 16115 Members - I mean wow, when you think about it, that's a wealth of information we can all learn from - there are a lot of menopausal women in the world and a fair few of them are on here or have been on here!! xx

my comment was meant and sorry if i wasn't very clear was that medical professional expect us to follow what they say as in they know best when we all know what works for one dosent work for the next 20 women ! which is why anaise was on here to ask opinions of others and experiences . so not sure where u got i singled hurdity out because never mentioned her .

anaise-

can i ask have you tried any other hrt before the gel or were you put straight on that ?

how was your hair before you started the estrogel were you loosing hair ?

how many pumps and how long have u been on it ?

i had review today with menopause who said i need testosterone as it's low but this could worsen my hairloss but may not so i'm praying it helps and balances estrogen !

are u thinking still to stop the hrt ?

Abso-bloody-lutely Ladybt!! This is exactly my feeling and what I said in the second part of my post in repsonse to yours, and what I frequently also try to convey - but not as well as you just have! That we are all equal on here whatever our background and between us contribute different levels of knowedge, advice, help, information support, hugs - and mostly in a very amicable way - with the occasional blip  ::).

Have a good weekend :)

I so agree with you! I am at the point where I feel like this forum helps fill in the gaps that a lot of "specialists" don't know. I think this is because there is unfortunately a lack of studies done compared to other health conditions and also it really does seem like individuals experience menopausal symptoms quite uniquely...I am so thankful for this forum because ladies helped me on here realize that medical professionals have varying advice/prescriptions for the same medications! Mamma mia! And when you're feeling so lousy and fed up due to all of the horrid symptoms, it becomes so much more frustrating to figure out dosages or treatment options...anyway, I don't want to jinx myself but thanks to the help on here re: my estrogel dosage that many of you gave a wealth of advice to me about, I am feeling sooo much better! It's just that I have to hide from my gyno that I am using three pumps rather than two to avoid her wrath....thanks again all!

Sammiejane, you should read Ladybt28's comment more thorough! You've wrote - advice from professionals has to be followed- and Lady says- no, you don't, you have a choice- and she explains why. Her comment about Hurdity relates to Aniase's post. Who's laughing?!
