yay - fab GP!
« on: December 14, 2013, 11:41:19 AM »

Having fretted for the last fortnight about getting HRT I'm just back from my GP.

I picked carefully (female mid-fifties post meno) and she was brilliant! No blood tests or questions - only a blood pressure check. Totally accepted that my symptoms suggested menopause and she listened to my request for bio-identical HRT and prescribed 4 months of oestrogel and utragestan (200mg)  :)

She said that she was impressed that I'd done some research and knew what I wanted. btw she didn't know the brand name utragestan and thought that only synthetic progesterone was available. She had to look it up as micronised progesterone so a heads up for anyone else who may need to explain that to their GP.

Just waiting for the chemist to get hold of it (I live in a rural area so it's a bit exotic for my local Boots!). Roll on feeling better!

Hope this inspires others to ask outright for what they would like

Really pleased for you.
Useful to know about the phrase micronised progesterone.
Well done.

So glad you have had success devonhil! Hope it works for you.  :) Just shows that you need to pick doctors carefully.

On all my posts where I recommend progesterone, specifically Utrogestan, I refer to the term "micronised progesterone" as this is a universal situation. As I also explained when I first requested it, the book that the GP looks it up in -only lists micronised progesterone as you have also found devonhil.

Also just to remind everyone of the correct spelling as Utrogestan to avoid any possible misunderstandings with GPs - and giving them no excuses not to have heard of it!

You are right about the spelling Hurdity  - I was convinced it was ULtrogestan   ::)

Hiya Ellie

she didn't discuss the dosage of estrogel. I kind of assumed it was one pump a day but I was secretly thinking I could tweak it. It's good to know you can use more if needed  :)

You can use up to 4 pumps a day. If I was I would start on 2 pumps which is roughly equivalent to Femston 1/10 the lower dose Femston.
