I would have to travel miles to get to an M&S and never think to go in one except at Motorway service areas  ::)

How far would you have to travel CLKD - I thought you lived fairly near a large town?

There's a small M&S at a petrol station which we never use 'cos the fuel is too pricey, otherwise it's a 26 mile round trip  ::) and it wouldn't be my first point of call!

Washing machine Scum

Suggest you use powder instead of liquid or liquid tablets, no scum , no smell and perfectly clean machine, all washing machine engineers use powder but there would be a public outcry from the soap makers  if any of the WMachine manufacturers suggested this.

Yep that's what I realised years ago  ::) and as for a powder that works on a cool wash, forget it!  Must go and empty the next load and hang on the line!

Agree re those cool washes, I do 60 and 40 nothing less and a 90 every now and again, even my sons do their sheets and towels on a 60 - think we had a post on how often do you wash your sheets so wont raise that again!!

As a meander.  Does anyone have information about using home testing kits for bacteria.  I have read so much about bad hand washing habits but do wonder how much is pushed by the soap making companies  ;) and would love to do a test round the taps, toilet handles, door handles etc…………

I got a new washing machine recently and was shocked at the length of the hotter washes. I always use the 30 minute 40 degree wash but only because all the other washes are 2 hours or even 3 hours long! Seems ridiculous to me.  My electricity bill is high enough already without 3 hour washes. Although I really do want to wash at hotter than 40 degrees I must admit.
