It's a good way of advertising though CLKD and people don't always have bags with them when they pop into the charity shop. Their bags should be the bio-degradable ones. Well, the one I had degraded in the cupboard after a few months anyway!  It is not a perfect world unfortunately.

I object to Charities spending money on bags    they spend enough on TV/newspaper advertising when ever there is a crisis

I had a roll of biodegradable bags shred on our kitchen floor, had had them for over 12 years and it took that long before they began to degrade  ………. even these, if they get into the oceans, can cause havoc

We've had the charity discussion before and I know our views differ.

The biodegradable bags you have, if they are over twelve years old, are completely from the ones in use nowadays. Things have moved on in the biodegradable world.

We try to take bags, hessian or otherwise ………. it's usually when we 'nip' into town that we find books etc. that we want to buy  but locally shops use handed in carriers ………. so no need for advertising.

I do think that the Red Cross are a good charity though. My friend is a member of their Emergency Response UK team and has been out and about for twelve hours at a time bringing help to people who are either flooded or without power.

I have this week read Warwick Davis' life story, a really good giggle.  Then I read 'Tressa', the story about the 12 year old who had a baby 9 years ago.  Quite sad.  Have a pile of books to search through for the next one, will probably be 'speak Swaheli, damn it!' …...

Am part way through 'To War with Whitaker' - really good historical tale taken from diary entries by the Countess of Ranfurly [1939-45].  Talk about how the other lived, when the UK was short of everything 'they' were taking holidays to Cairo, picnics, eating reasonably well, had electric regularly ……. it's an eye opener and really interesting.  I would like to find out what happened to 'Whitaker' who was the valet who went to War with Dan Ranfurly.  It's a book I can read in the bath …… Dirk Bogarde gives the comment in the front.

We went to an antiques fair since and was talking to a man very interested in Military History, including the book as above which he seemed interested in; walked into the nearby town, found a copy in a Charity Shop which I took and left on his Stall [he was away fetching coffee].  How weird or co-incidence

I've been through my book shelf today.  I found a book on Beduin jewellery which I bought a few months ago: I think that some of the silver 'ethnic' jewellery I have purchased at sales/auctions may be Tribal.  Certainly one piece was sold to me as Yemeni ……. heavy to wear.  Lots of intricate work in each piece.

Did anyone know that The Borrowers wouldn't have survived.  According to recent 'research'  .  The article is out of reach right now ……. wonder how anyone got a Grant for that bit of info.

Probably fun to 'research' but hardly informative  .  It's a bit like learning recently that Puff, that magic dragon, had a friend  ,  , so when Peter grew up, he wasn't on his own - but that wouldn't have sold the record would it
