HRT an option?
« on: November 28, 2013, 07:31:41 PM »

Hi guys

Phew what a year and still plodding along, mixed into the whole sorry mess is the dreaded Menopause which has slowly encroached on my life, to the point it was interfering in my every day life.  Hot flushes, bones aching, dryness, sleeplessness, hair loss, memory loss, lack of concentration and everything else too.

I felt I needed a rest bite from my other illnesses and needed to deal with my menopause at least.  I was referred to a specialist clinic due to my current condition and spent time with the hospital doctor.  I was expecting a no from her, but because I am on Warfarin at the moment she said it was ok, discussed side effects etc and yes there are risks.  But we agreed to trial it for three months and will take it from there, and I will be using patches

Am I a little concerned, yes it's the unknown, and as I've had stupid adverse reactions to my medications the last 12 months I'm a bit nervous

Do I want a break from the horrible Meno and its issues it's throwing at me so that I can deal with my other illness, yes!

Am I expecting too much from the patches and HRT, probably

My iron is quite low and is possibly contributing to my hair loss, so now googling foods that are high in iron, but have to be careful I don't get constipated as it could be an issue with my stoma

Sigh and slight grin

Take it one step at a time. It would be good if you could at least get the meno symptoms under control a bit. I've got on fine with patches, though like everything else it may take time to find right dose. Fingers crossed.

I am so gland the doctor is willing to let you try HRT!

Hopefully the hormones will kick in soon and you can get some relief! Cubagirl's advice is good, one step at a time while you go through the 3 month trial.  Good luck!

Week one and second patch on yesterday.  My specialist said it will be about three to four weeks before I notice anything

I did mention in my post I may have high expectations of this working and sort of excited too, which is possibly odd

Day one of the patch I was buzzing for the first time in a year at work, I think it was mind over matter and being actually positive too.  A bit like hypnotherapy I guess and the placebo effect, whichever way it is I had a good day.

My iron levels are low and rather rake tablets which can make you constipated which I certainly don't want with my stoma. My friend who is a nurse recommended a liquid iron supplement which I started taking four days ago. So fingers crossed I actually start feeling a bit more like me rather than "the third person" type feeling.  I'm also managing the MS symptoms that I still have, some days it's not good others I just try to distract myself

Glad you have had a good day.
It doesn't matter why it happened, the main thing is it did.
MS doesn't help with meno, the trouble is it's so unpredictable.
