increased anxiety on evorel sequi
« on: November 25, 2013, 06:18:11 AM »

Hi. I'm a newby on here so I hope I'm doing it right. I've been told last year that I'm in perimenopause and may have been for several years. After a lot of thought I tried evorel sequi as recommended by my Dr. After getting over the initial side affects things seemed to settle but over the last couple of months I have been hit with debilitating anxiety and depression and I now feel just as bad as before her. Has anyone experienced the same? And what did you do to sort it?

Hi loubie40

 :welcomemm:

Yes you're doing it fine!

Sorry to hear about the side effects. This could be due to several things. Did you suffer from anxiety and depression before the menopause or during your menstrual cycle  or at all in the past? If the anxiety occurs during the second phase of the patches ie when you are on the combi oestrogen and progestogen ones, then it could be the progestogen in this brand of HRT doesn't agree with you and you could try a different type.

If it occurs just after you change from the combi one to the oestrogen only ones and just before your bleed - then it's normal pmt - but again you might feel different at this point in the cycle, on a different patch.

If you are feeling it all the time then it may be due to the fact you are still in peri and your hormones are fluctuating, or it could be that your oestrogen levels are too low - and to some extent this will depend on where you are in meno, how much of a cycle you still have or even how old you are.

It may be that you would benefit from separate oestrogen and progesterone so that you can increase the doses more easily? Are you doing everything else re diet, weight and exercise etc to make sure you are as healthy as possible at this stage in your life?

I am sure someone else will be along with advice re anxiety too - there are quite a lot of threads on this, so if you go to the home page of the forum and type "anxiety" into the search box, you will be able to read what's been said about this.

Hope this helps

Hi.
Thank you so much for your reply. It's really helpful. I have had anxiety for several years, only never this debilitating and I've spent most of them telling Docs it was cyclical, it was only after I started with all the other menopause symptoms that they wanted me to have hrt as they said I was in premature menopause.
The anxiety now seems to be mainly at the start of  the 50 or the Conti then it settles a bit. I've now cut the patches in half as I don't want to stop because I get slight relief from most other symptoms.
So I feel a bit caught in the middle now and I'm positive the depression/ anxiety is worse when I'm on the oestrogen patch. I'm better with the combined.
When I went back to my dr she said she had tried everything ( is this all there is then?) And that I needed to change antidepressants. I personally don't think I would be on them if I can get the hormones sorted.
I'm also on a good gluten free and mainly sugar free diet.
