Anyone using Testosterone?
« on: November 23, 2013, 05:03:11 PM »

Hi

I am wondering if any of you Ladies ever tried using Testosterone in addition to Oestrogen / Progesterone HRT?

I was reading this site today: http://www.studd.co.uk/ and am impressed with information one finds now days - not at all available when I begun my journey, in ca 2000 :(  It says there that adding Testosterone may help for low energy levels and low moods...  :-\  Any experiences, please?

Thanks! :-*

I don't think you can get it on the NHS which rules it out for a lot of us.
We have talked about it before so if you do a search then you will be able to read what has been said.

LIVIAL* (TIBOLONE) - is a combined  Oestrogen, progesterone + testosterone tablet form of HRT which is available on the NHS.  I tried this for 3 months a few years ago and felt quite good on it but I didn't like the emergence of teenage spots on my face and back.  I was always prone to acne and, for me, one of the few good things about the meno has been fewer outbreaks of spots.  If you are not prone to getting spots it would be great.
Hope it helps you.  Good luck.  DG x

Hi! Thanks!

I think I am pass spots - cropped volcanoes at ca 54-55,. I am now 58.5 and on Evorel 100 plus Mirena. I have low tolerance of Progesteron - was freaking out when on Duphaston. Now I am so low with energy, no joy, that it makes me wonder - I've just read a bit and it makes sense, that Testosterone could be responsible..

I am going to Meno Clinic next month - hope to discuss all this there and then,... if they want to listen...

Thanks again! :-*

Just a thought:  Make sure you are taking Vit D - terribly important for energy and immune system through winter months. Not sure testosterone will necessarily improve energy - your libido yes!
I'm 57 and I'm finding my energy levels have really dropped over the last year.  I've been trying to work at a level i did 10 years ago and it's been killing me.  I was recently able to take some time out from work (for 2 months) and feel a 100 times better. I'm now doing more part time which I can manage far better.

Thanks!

How much of Vit D one suppose to take?

This libido bit worries me in Testosterone - I have no problem in this area, rather opposite. I think it increased during my Meno ;( ... anyway, I was dumped for being too moody, apparently, too difficult to understand.. no wonder :( A younger model was more attractive.  Sometimes I think that yes, some .. strong and caring individual  ??? could sort out this lack of enthusiasm to anything ... Ridicules thing is that I was always so independent, and motivated, ... and now I sit all day staring at my computer... Ehhh:(  :-\

Thanks! :-*

Thanks Taz!

Well, there we are! What I've read at this site and Prof Studd's, it makes sense, at least to try... ::)

I tried a compounded testosterone cream for 2 months.....it was not for me.  Takes forever to get out of your system too.

Unlikely I will ever try it again. Just be careful. If your estrogen is low it's actions are enhanced.  Make sure you have good estrogen levels when using it.

Hi orrla

My view would be that if you have a good libido then you are unlikely to have low testosterone levels but you could ask for them to be tested if you are concerned. My practice wouldn't test mine though! it's one thing they just weren't interested in. Could the tiredness be due to something else?

Could the Mirena be contributing to your feelings? Depressed mood is one of the common side effects. If you google Mirena side effects there are a lot of women who have suffered enormously from this. I haven't read in detail.

I presume you have also had full blood tests for anything else causing low energy levels? Do you have a varied, healthy diet and take exercise - and all the usual recommendations?
