Hi anderina
Sorry to hear you are having pain and bleeding as well as everything else with the VA.
I posted in detail before about this and provided the evidence that I had found. I repeat that I found no evidence that Vagifem (in the short term) will have any serious effect on fibroids but the advice given in the leaflets was the same as that for full HRT (just as the same leaflets warn against the risks of breast cancer etc). There are few data on long term effects of Vagifem (ie beyond 12 months).
The most important thing with Vagifem to prevent any absorption beyond the vaginal tissues, is to make sure you do the initial loading to thicken up the vaginal lining. So this means using it every night for 14 days and then twice a week thereafter.
It sounds to me as though your fibroid is quite bad so that it probably needs treating anyway as soon as possible, and I presume you are having this possibility looked at ie treatments?
In the short term anyway you will want relief from the VA and bladder symptoms which will come much quicker than any possible (unlikely though it is) negative effect of Vagifem
I don't know a lot about fibroids but have started reading about them and I see there are different types, and possibly because of this they react to the female hormones differently if they are structured differently and this will depend on the hormone receptors in the fibroid. It all sounds quite technical and I haven't got very far yet! This doesn't help you though!
However if you are really reluctant then start the Vagifem but at your appointment ask for Orthogynest pessaries which will do the same job and will not have any adverse effects whatsoever as far as I understand.
Hope this helps
