Another weird symptom!!
« on: November 07, 2013, 01:37:05 PM »

Hi all

For the last few month I have noticed a very odd sensation in my jaw. It is not painful as such, but it sometimes feels like it is sticking, even when not eating etc, and I am just very aware of it!!  Never used to be aware of my jaw  :-\    the area around my temples is sometimes a bit tender and head achey too.

From googling, it sounds like TMJ which is basically a problem with the jaw joint.  Given that my very first meno symptom was sudden onset severe joint pain caused by dropping hormone levels... I guess it is not surprising, but just wondered if I was the only one?

How many more to go....34 symptoms in all is it ? :D

I have a clicky jaw and mentioned it to my chiropractor, as it became uncomfortable when eating. He did some manipulation, gave me some exercises and contacted my dentist. The dentist got quite excited by being contacted by a chiropractor! He took a mould of my lower teeth, then arranged for a teeth guard to be made. I have to wear it at night and if I can during the day (which I don't). I hated wearing it at first, but now find it comfy. It has worked and my jaw no longer clicks. I was told that I grind my teeth, which I was unaware of, and the guard prevents further wearing down of my teeth. The guard cost £40. I have since heard that dentists can cause this problem by forcing people's jaws too wide when treating patients. I hope it helps to know you can do something about your jaw. If you have a good dentist, talk to them.

Just wanted to add to JUJU's experience.

My daughter in mid twenties had this issue.  Dentist made guard for her to sleep in and it has alleviated the problem.  Apparently she was grinding at night which the dentist says is very common.
