Feeling like I'm desperate to have a wee while on utrogestan
« on: October 27, 2013, 08:33:18 PM »

Good evening ladies

Has anyone experienced this before I'm wondering.

The feeling like I need to go for a wee, RIGHT now, like irritation, not burning but always there.

I don't suffer from VA in any way so I don't think its that at all, no dryness or soreness at all vaginally (luckily! :))
But this sensation I've had for a few days and wondered if it might materialise into a bladder infection but it hasn't got any worse, or any better.

Anyone else had this or is it a trip to the doctors (sorry I've lost the question mark from my keyboard.... grrr....REALLY  needs replacing, but that's another story  ;D ;D )

thanks in advance xx

Hi Clovie, I am certainly not an expert but two years ago I had this constant urge to wee. Went on a merry-go-round of GP, Gynaecologist (bladder stretching) you name it but didn't appear to have VA. Now I am of the opinion that the dreaded VA was starting and I hadn't realized it, nor had the 'experts'. I went through times when it felt like cystitis then would go away but now it's here all the time. Don't know what anyone else thinks but don't rule out VA.
Hope your question mark on your keyboard gets fixed!  :)

How do you use it. Vaginally or orally.

I used it vaginally and it eventually made me feel the way you describe. I kept thinking I had cystitis. It went away when I stopped using it.

I am sensitive to all sorts and I think it was probably the coating that did not suit me.

Hi clovie

It does have this effect on me - it's more like pressure on the bladder, and I wake more often in the night. I have never had progesterone orally so I can't compare with anything else really!
In my case I just thought it was also partly my age and having had several children too - sort of increases the pressure a bit. Even when I am not on the Utro I need to go but very little comes out and very slow flow compared to other women!
Having said that you might want to test for an infection - but the test is, if it goes away when you stop the utro then it;s not an infection , and presumably if it is an infection it will get worse...
Sorry that sounds a bit muddled - it's getting late and is really an hour later and I;m v tired!

This is how my VA started  9 years ago. The symptoms were not really vaginal but more urethral and felt like I was coming on with a UTI or had to go all the time! My OB-Gyn sent me to a urologist who gave me some estrogen cream to put on my urethra after she ruled out UTI and did a look around inside my bladder. I did not have pain with sex or vaginal dryness yet.  At the time I had missed 2 periods.  After I used the cream, I had periods again for 7 months and no more sensations of this kind.  The next time I missed a period, it came back....as you describe it "desperate to have a wee".  I was taking no hormones of any kind at the time.

I believe in my experience that it is either low estrogen alone or lower estrogen relative to progesterone.
Maybe have your doctor check your blood levels?  Also look for phenazopyridine without dr. order to help with this, but you can only take this for a couple of days as it is very hard on your liver. It can give you some relief but will turn your urine orange so be prepared. Please talk to your doctor about all of this though, ok? Do you have to go in to see them or can you just call them on the phone and talk to the nurse about it?

Thanks for your input ladies  :)

I'm wondering - if it IS the start of VA, would vagifem sort it out , I'm already on full HRT.

Also I am confused because I mentioned to my meno specialist that I get itchiness down below now and again (nowhere near vagina, more forward of that, on the labia purely) It comes and goes, I did wonder if it was an allergy to some washing powder....or was it VA
Well she told me I definitely didn't have VA as VA didn't come and go - and itchiness of labia alone with no bladder or vaginal involvement was not VA - and she joked about it saying, don't worry, if you DID have Va you would know about it  ;)

Got me wondering now.....

Thanks again all  :)

Hi clovie I can't remember what dose of oestrogen you are on? I use vaginal as well as full HRT. Just because you don't officially have VA doesn't mean you don't get symptoms that would benefit from additional local oestrogen.

However re the itching - I get this exactly where you say at the bit between the labia right at the top - when I use the Utrogestan vaginally so it is due to something in that and I think it's a bit of a fungal infection because canesten cream usually deals with it. Not sure why it happens with the Utro but maybe something in the oil promotes a bit of fungal growth?

Clovie I do know that too much progesterone can cause bladder irritation and sometimes incontinence, this was told to me a long time ago by a doctor because when I used cyclogest progesterone suppositories( I use to cut them in halves and quarters) it happened to me, also when I tried Crinone progesterone gel.

If you google you will find evidence of the connection.

Way-hey!!!!

Well I slapped on a bit of canesten last night and this morning and my 'urge to go- and go NOW' seems to have gone!!!
Now it might be a coincidence - or it might not-  but either way I'm very relieved it's gone!! (fingers crossed)

Thanks for the idea Hurdity!  :foryou: xxxx
