I was waiting for the washing machine to finish it's cycle just now and idly reading the label on the fabric softener bottle which states that it is not to be used on children's night clothes as it increases the flammability of fabrics. I had heard it mentioned before but didn't realise that they actually said don't use it. Anyone else know this?

Taz I have just looked on my bottle of Asda sensitive fabric softener and there's nothing on there
I agree if this is the case then it should be printed in large letters on the front label.

I agree, it should be something every parent knows.

I had a burn last year on my neck. It was so very painful. I can only try to imagine what a really bad burn would be like.

It makes me shudder.

I read it on some products and as I don't have childrens' clothing to wash, dismissed it.  I rarely use a softener though, preferring to hang it on the line for a Very Good Blow.  I don't find that softners keep their scent for very long these days.

It's not just for children's clothing though CLKD - it's also for fleeces, velour and fluffy jumpers. Seems like more should be made of it to be honest.

I agree there should be more made of warnings.  So not buying the product might be a way of focussing the mind of the manufacturer.  Passing on the knowledge too, i.e. WI, Church, Youth Club, people in the store   But fabric softener is often not warrented ......... the times I use it is when I have clothing which sparks and it does take the static out of some fabrics.  Fortunately we have a long linen line and a Good Blow across the garden

I always use fabric softener even when line drying - I just think it makes things so much softer - especially the dozens of pairs (or so it seems) of sports socks which our household seems to use.

I don't think it warrants not buying the product - I just wanted to mention that the warning is on the pack but may not have been read. It's the same as dishwasher products. Finish for example seems to say that you just need that one little tablet but if you read the blurb you also have to use salt and finisher and if you don't then Finish are not liable for any problems with your dishwasher. Strange!

I find that Finish sticks in my machine 
I find that softener makes clothing sticky  even with a double spin cycle

Sounds like you could do with a new dishwasher and washing machine CLKD

They are new, well 2/3 years old ........ long Life yet  and used almost daily what with DH cycling miles and miles and

Has the dishwasher always had problems dissolving the Finish tablet then?

I only used 3 tablets ......... I use powder for all the machines, it dissolves quicker and more thoroughly and I rarely use a 30 deg wash as the powder sticks in the tray.  50 degs. or higher for laundry, gives the machine a good clear out
