Sorry to read about your mum but great news that she is recovering.  I have heard that urine infections can have a very serious impact on the body. From hereon I trust she will get stronger and stronger as each day goes by with no more issues. Stay strong.  Sunshine x

Hope things improve for your mum. And you, it can't have been easy not knowing what was going on.

Seem to remember, one of the members here recently having a upper UTI which laid her low for some time.

Wonderful that they found the cause of the problem!!! I agree with honeybun though, it's a shame that is not one of the first things they checked for in an elderly post-menopausal woman, but maybe it just took a while for the urine culture to come back??  Maybe you should ask them about vagifem or the estring unless she is already on it?

Mum is feeling much better although she still has odema in her legs.  The hospital social worker rang me yesterday (supposed to ring my sister but obviously didn't check her emails!) to say that Mum is medically fit for discharge.  Before she could say anything else I asked her where they would be sending Mum for rehab - she quickly got the message that Mum couldn't go home as she is at the moment so she is currently ringing round to find one in our area that will take her - strangely we haven't heard anything from the actual hospital about Mum being discharged but I'm visiting tonight so will ask then.

Yes Andius, pretty much back to normal.  She can't remember most of her stay in hospital or the week before she came in but that's no bad thing really as she was in a pretty bad way.  Needless to say I've heard nothing from the social worker since speaking to her on Monday - the form she was sending me hasn't arrived either so guess it can't be that urgent!

Well, after a few false starts Mum was finally transferred to a nursing home in our own town yesterday evening.  She's gone onto their rehab/therapy unit but we're not sure how long she'll stay for.  At least it's nice and close for us to visit and hopefully some of her friends will get to see her now as well    It's amazing how well she's doing when we think back to a fortnight ago and we were almost certain we were going to lose her!  She needs some more physio as her mobility is quite bad but I guess lying down in bed for 4 weeks wouldn't have helped that.

Do you think she will like it enough to stay  or move to a similar establishment?

I'm sort of hoping so CLKD - we popped in briefly last night but it was tea time so didn't stay too long.  Mum said it was lovely though, she has a nice room and her lunch was good (she was eating very poorly in hospital).  She said the evening the bought her over there was a black dog that came and sat by her feet for a while, we didn't see it last night but going again this evening so he might be there then.  She said the whole place just felt very homely so it would certainly be a possibility for her although she wouldn't remain on their rehab section of course.  She can stay in there for up to 6 weeks though so we are in no rush for her to leave any time soon.

Years ago my mum was in respite care as brother & I were both out of the country on holiday at same time. My mum didn't go home. She needed the care the home could give. In fact nursing staff said she was so confused that sending her home wouldn't be good for her. Maybe this will happen with your mum.

Probably a PAT-dog then  and I would begin seeking advice as to where this particular care home transfers their clients if not to their own homes.  Also ask at your GP Surgery, speaking to the District Nurses might be a start, AgeUK have leaflets with advice on thsi too.
