Just been on premarin for 4 months and ive just had the longest migraine I've ever experienced.  6 days. Anyone else had headaches on this medication? ? What about patches , estrogen only, any chance of headaches? ?

Ive been using Oestrogel and Utrogestan for about 8 months and ive been experiencing an increasing number of migraine type headaches.....always been prown to them but typically they occurred pre-menstrually.  Now they are happening all the time.  I remember when I used the pill briefly when I was around 20 years old that I had the same problem.

Transdermal HRT is thought to be better if you suffecr from migraines - so patches or gel would be preferable to pills - and as Stellajane says, these are bio-identical to ours,  not equine oestrogens.

Meeka are you taking Utrogestan continuously or cyclically and if the latter, when do the headaches oocur in relation to the cycle? Have you got a permanent headache or is/was there a pattern to them? That must be rotten  - I hated those hormone headaches.

Sorry for the late reply Hurdity.......I was having headaches for around 4/5 days of the week.  They didn't seem to connect with the Utrogestan which I only take for seven days per month.   I was thinking it may be due to the Oestrogen.   I think I must keep a diary and see if there is any pattern to them.   Strangely enough, since I mentioned them on here the headaches have really reduced!

I have had a very stressful year so maybe that is the reason....

I am due to go back to see the consultant soon.....I have concerns that I am not taking enough Utrogestan, only 100 mg for seven days of the month, vaginally.

This month I only had a tiny withdrawal bleed, lasted one day and was really nothing.

I have had migraines all my life but once I got past 52 and started into the menopause for real they started to become less frequent despite being on various types of HRT (both bio-identical and Premique). So there is hope!

Ive been off premarin for 12 days now. Im on low dose patch and im plagued with daily tiredness and constant headaches. I actually feel worse. Maybe I was just unfortunate with this recent migraine that ladted 6 days . I dont know what to do for the best now.

My headaches too became more frequent when i reduced/stopped estrogen!  Some women are very susceptible to headaches when it comes to hormones/estrogen.  I also find that even without changing doses that i can get a run of annoying headaches daily for weeks at a time! then they just go.  I really sympathize with you all x

My doctor gave me 3 months supply of patches but low dose . I came off a high dose. Been on 5 days is it a case of trying to get through this or go back to my doctor?

What patches have you got? Maybe if they are low dose ( eg 25 mcg) or med (50 mcg) then gradually build up the dose until you feel better. It always tales a while to adjust to a different type of HRT and especially a different mode of delivery ( ie pills to patches). Sorry I can't remember how old you are or where in meno?

I can relate to you all suffering headaches and migraines I have had one today and I'm on evorel conti patches have been for 3 years now and for. No reason I get them I have tried everything MRI scan food allergies cutting down on coffee intact I don't drink it now don't eat chocolate still get migraines and the only thing  helps me when I get a migraine is zolmitriptan medication I get about 4 attacks a month I keep a record of when I get them to see if any thing triggers it might have a word with my meno nurse when I go back as I'm feeling a bit depressed as well and might be to do with the oestrogen as I'm now 54 and been on hrt for about 3/4 years

Hello everyone.  Back in 2011 I had chemo following an ovarian cancer diagnosis and surgery to remove everything.  No family history re osteoporosis was taken and nobody warned me about how much of the chemo toxicity impacts on the spine - so 10 years later I have a dexa scan and discover I have spinal osteoporosis.  I got prescribed Lenzetto but after 2 days I had migraine and felt really unwell so I was changed to oestrogel.  I had to start at 1/16th of one pump and it took 6 months to build up to 2 pumps!  If I took it too fast I would get migraine auras, lower level headaches, slight nausea and generally feeling 'off'.  I was stable for 18 months on 2 pumps and the next dexa scan showed it was having a positive impact and my spine now in osteopenia rather than osteoporosis - brilliant! However, I was told my oestradial level was half what it needed to be and to increase to 3 pumps.  I started at 2 and 1/4 but that was too much!  Over around 6 weeks I have slowly crept up to 2 and 3/4 but then when I got to 3 I had a week of headaches and feeling crap.  I'm going to try patches now or gel and patches combo.  I need to also start testosterone but a month after I'm stable at 3 pumps or equivalent......goodness knows when that day will come around!  Does anyone else have such sensitivity to oestrogel?
