Mirena Coil
« on: September 18, 2013, 03:50:13 PM »

Hi, I wonder if someone could give me advice on the Mirena Coil. I had my coil removed just under two weeks ago after having it inserted nearly nine years ago. The doctor advised me to leave it in. Since removal I've had a light bleed the whole time. At nearly 56 the doctor said I was probably past the menopause but even though the coil stopped my periods I never felt I was over the menopause. Is it normal to bleed for this amount of time? I will try and get to the doctors this week but thought I'd ask advice before I go. Milly Molly Mandy

Do you mean you had the same coil for 9 years. They run out of hormones after about four I think so if this is the case yours was doing nothing for you.

I am sure someone else will be along soon with some advice.

Probably worth seeing the doc for advice.
Bleeding may be the result of physical insult, were they rough removing the coil?
Probably worth getting your hormones checked to see where you are in meno.

Like Honeyb says, I thought the mirena ran out of hormones after about 3 or 4 years

Good luck
