 :Di just wondered if any other Mirena users have discovered this rather strange phenomena...Since i had the Mirena fitted in May this year, i have had no periods hurrah!! (im 46 they were horrid) i have had minimal spotting,which was something i was really bothered about....and then the smell started...sort of like a burnt, toxic fake tan whiff...its mainly in my lady garden/pubic area but in the morning the whole bed reeks and its like the smell is exuding through my skin. Has anyone else expereinced this...The coil has been in for almost 4 months now and i do not really want to have it taken out, but the whiff is really not nice at all especially if someone is wanting to go and visit your garden so to speak loo forward to some interesting answers on this... i should say that there is no discharge with this either...its just a smell.

Any smell if there is a 'foreign body' in-situ should be investigated by a GP - perhaps a swab needs to be taken?  Is there any ithcyness? dryness?

I had a menopausal 'whiff' which I could smell but which DH couldn't - apparently

I can't remember anyone mentioning this on the forum.

Have you asked Mr Google to see if it's mentioned anywhere. I would go to my GP though as its not normal. Can anyone else smell it?

Hi there thanks for reply x it's all over mr google and is either Bv
or something strange from mirena. Most women get it out . And a re very cross about lack of info on side effects etc. not sure what the stats are on this. Strange no One else on here mentioned it ... It really is a weird smell!! Will get myself checked out for foreign bodies ha ha but nothing  been up there and as I say no discharge.  Will keep u Posted ... Thanks ) x.

If it helps I've just remembered that my body always used to smell very peculiar just before a period - especially my hands - sort of an acid/cheesy smell. Doc just said it was hormonal and once the period had started the smell went. This would tie in with progesterone causing it I suppose?

The Mirena is a 'foreign body'    .......... have you made an appt to see the GP or Practice Nurse?

No periods vs foul smell .... Will keep u posted on this

I found this old post while searching around the forum. I don't have a Mirena coil but I am on Elleste Duet 2mg. Sometimes I have a really weird scorched smell, it seems to come from my pores and my groin area, my OH says he can't smell anything but I know I am not imagining it. I also had to stop using Vagifem as it gave me a really strong musky smell. Does anyone else have experience of this?
