Oestrogel anyone experianced problems? ready for Conti HRT?
« on: September 05, 2013, 06:50:25 AM »

Morning,

I posted recently regarding the return of meno symptoms. Currently I am using between 3/4 pumps of oestrogel per day with a seperate Progesterone each month.

My question is..... anyone experience problems with the absorbtion? only with the return of symptoms I wonder if I should try the everal conti patch but it appears to only have half the oestogen, is this correct? and if you are using a conti HRT please tell me what your experience is. I am almost 55 now so the conti may be a better option?
Many thanks

I use oestogel - I've never used anything else (except a brief flirtation with a patch which didn't stick) so can't compare really - does seem to work. I always put it on after a shower...

Do you mind me asking what progesterone you use and how long? That's the bit I really struggle with

Hi Lovely

I use Northesterone 5 mcg for seven days. I always start the 1st day of every month. I can't say it suits me but I do have a good bleed.

Hope that helps W

I used to be on oestrogel but was changed to estradot patches which stick very well. I was fine on the gel for many years, but started getting flushes again so was changed to the patches.

Cubagirl

I was fine up until recently when flushes and morning nausea returned. There is so many ups and downs that I can't decide if I have reached meno. Since uping the dose I have started to feel a bit better again but after a while on 4 pumps I get jittery, so may be 4 pumps is a little high??

Can you tell me what dose of oesrodot are you on? and did you have any problems when you changed?

Initially put on estradot 50 which gave me a slightly higher dose than the 2 pumps of oestrogel I was on. I thought they would just increase the number of pumps. Helped the flushes, but got jitters. Reduced to 37.5 and stayed on that for several months before reducing further to 25. Managing not too badly on them, though I've to try coming off them in the New Year.

Hi warwick

It's important to find the "sweet" spot regarding oestrogen dose, symptoms and general well-being which can be tricky.

I use patches and they are just fine at 50 mcg (obvs I would love to be able to replicate cyclical levels I experienced when younger but failing that.....) - give me a very consistent dose and no untoward symptoms. Would love to have a bit more oomph though but the interplay and balance of all our hormones is complex - eg my testosterone levels are probably low too.

Re conti HRT - it depends on how the progestogen makes you feel. Personally I would not want to take progesterone all the time, especially not a synthetic one but if you are OK on norethisterone, maybe you would be OK on Evorel conti.  You say though, "I can't say it suits me". Therefore maybe not a good idea. If you want to go on conti then maybe try out a cycle with a different prog eg Utrogestan first to see if you are OK on it, otherwise, if you can cope with bleeds - why not keep on with them??

It also might be tricky just to suddenly go from 4 pumps to 50 mcg though - but you could always top up with a little gel for a while?

Thanks for all your comments.

Hurdity, You are so right, going from 4 pumps of gel to a conti patch which only has 50mcg may be too low. Northeserone I struggle with 5mcg for 7 days. By day 5 my mood drops and feel dizzy. Thankfully I know I can stop after 7 days.

I had a bad experience with Elleste duet tablets, that was why I changed to patches (femseven) then I needed to increase Oestrogen so then changed to gel. I did read somewhere that problems after long term use with gel could include problems with absorbtion.

Fingers crossed all settles soon :(
