Hi all
I am hoping someone can put my mind at rest.
I went to the GP today for the result of my ultrasound scan and blood tests.
I already knew I had a large (post menopausal )ovarian cyst 8 x 8cm, which the sonographer told me was fluid filled and I was told that the blood tests and swabs that I had done at the surgery were clear . I had assumed that the CA125 had been one of these tests....today I was told it hadn't been done and that I needed to have this and CAE and CA99 tests done also.
I am now really panicking, I had relaxed a little thinking my CA125 was ok, and now find I need the other tests.
The GP said it was routine but looking on the web I see that the CAE is done for people who have been diagnosed with various cancers and I cant find anything about CA99.
I have a 2 week referral to the gynea as the GP said it is better to get me there quickly to "stop me " whittling....she said they may choose to "drain it" , but why all the tests???!!   
I'm going out of my mind with worry.......did they see something on my scan that makes them think I have cancer......?
I'm thinking the worst and am really really frightened.
Not sure how im going to get through the next few days -

Please stop worrying debil its a routine blood test (standard procedure) for a post menopause ovary cyst, and yours is fluid filled even less likely for anything to worry about.

Your GP told you it is routine and it is.

Ok, ok ladies for taking the time to put my mind at rest.....I was gutted as I was slightly celebrating the fact that my blood tests were ok when in fact they hadn't been done.

I will stop googling and get on with my work...promise

Sorry - Deb - I didn't mean to 'have a go'    Must read back more carefully what I type - but Google really is best avoided where tests are concerned.  If you Google 'full blood count', it will tell you it's a test for leukemia - it's a test used far more frequently for a million and one much less serious things too, but if you didn't know that, the word 'leukemia' is what would stick in your head!

Don't be silly Scampi, no need to apologise, I needed telling!!
Im my own worst enemy. I know i'm scaring myself half silly but cant seem to help it....the more I look for reassurance the more I find the opposite.
I appreciate you taking the time to respond and was  actually trying to be a little lighthearted after my rant....sometimes that gets lost in transit!!

Do you mean CEA and CA19-9?
 They are cancer markers, usually used to monitor disease.
You need to talk to you GP and get more info on why he has asked for these markers to be tested, especially if you haven't had a diagnosis.

I think it is pretty standard with any cyst post meno, I was also sent for them, as my gynae said to me, he thinks the cyst is benign but lets just run the blood tests to be sure and if the bloods come back ok, then we leave things, so they use those as markers, I would not get hysterical, they are just being thorough.

Yes I may have misheard she probably said CA19-9.
It was the sonographer that ordered them - not the GP.

Ladies im in a dilemma!!.My gynae appointment has come through for Thursday 13th September and my blood test results (CA125 , CAE etc) should be back at the GP tomorrow ( Tuesday 11th at the latest).
I'm in a dilemma as to whether to ring for my blood results before I go for my appointment - the reason being
a) im scared and b)I stupidly ( due to nerves and being thrown by the fact that the sonographer has suggested that I needed additional CA tests)  Ididn't ask all of the questions that I wanted to and the GP just seemed keen to get me in and out!!
As a result I still don't know for certain what type of cyst I have other than it is 8cm and according to the sonographer "fluid filled". Neither do I know the exact results of my hormone level blood tests....so i'm not really certain why the additional CA tests were ordered or how to interpret the results.
My DH thinks I should perhaps wait until the Gynae appointment for my resukts so that I have all of the information that I require and so that my questions can be answered by the Gynae ( and not Dr Google who I have spent hours with and ended up frightening myself stupid).
What do you think I should do? Am I better off knowing as much as I can before the appointment next week ( I rang GP surgery to ask for a copy of my ultrasound and blood results but was told by receptionist that I had to go in and fill out a form), and ringing for my blood results tomorrow or should I wait until next weeks appointment?
My DH has offered to work from home tomorrow so he can be with me if I decide to ring and he is accompanying me to my appointment next week.- bless him
I would appreciate any advice from someone who has been in my position .

Your gyny will get the results as well as your GP and gyny is person to talk to. You are between a rock and a hard place as I imagine you want to find out results because if they come back normal you will be relieved BUT if they come back elevated then you are going to worry worry and no one to ask until your gyny appt.
You might have to actually see your GP for results or they may even contact your themselves if they thin they need to but GP knows that you are seeing gyny soon anyway.
could you make appt with GP to discuss if you can't wait for gyny appt.
Very difficult decision for you.

I agree. If you are not sure what exactly the tests are, or what they are for, then there is not much point having the results without a discussion with a doctor about what they mean.

I think i'm going to leave it Thursday when I have my gynae appointment. A colleague of mine is currently under the same gynae and she said that she is great at explaining and answering questions, unlike my GP!!
Ive been worrying now for 5 weeks so another 6 days shouldn't be too bad! Also its my sons birthday on Tuesday and I don't want to spoil it for him .At least at the moment its only a possibility - sometimes ignorance is bliss!!
 Fingers crossed for Thursday !!
