Hello. New member here and struggling with menopausal symtoms
« on: August 30, 2013, 12:11:56 AM »

Hi everyone.

My mother was menopausal in her mid-40's and i know i've been having symptoms for some years even though the tests say otherwise. One of the worst things for me are the mood swings and lethargy. It takes me double the time to do things i used to do in half the time especially if they involve concentration.

It's comforting to know i'm not alone with this constant struggle.

Hi, my name is Anne and I too am struggling with menopause symptoms, I am in surgical menopause after a TAH/BSO because of a huge ovarian cyst, ( looked like I was carrying full term twins) anyway so far my GP has not given me any for of HRT I have asked a few times and had all sorts of tests done to see if my symptoms were related to something else???? But no! tests all clear, aim so tired all the time (iron levels fine) my body aches, some days I feel 100 years old, my bones/joints ache as if I have arthritis, I have horrible hot flushes night and day, I'm irritable, can't sleep, totally irrational somedays, worry about everything, cry at the drop of a hat, I'm just fed up with it all, >:( I wasn't like this before op, and I just feel my quality of life is rubbish, I can't be bothered with no one or anything, Also I'm really struggling at my work because of the tiredness and the achy bones, body, I have been to my GP again and she has told me she will look into it for me, so it's a step forward I suppose, i am 4 months post op and thought I would be much better by now! Oh yes and the brain fog I get is dreadful, so forgetful, I am 51, surely all this isn't normal??......is it?.. Please help, I also wondered if anyone had tried or heard about his wellsprings serenity cream, I've been reading about it and it sounds good but I'd like to hear what others think before trying it.
Thanks in advance :-\

Hi Anne - welcome to the forum.

Sorry to be blunt but your GP sounds useless and I feel you need to change. It's a shame that your consultant didn't prescribe HRT to be started immediately following your op - this is what often happens.

Surgical  menopause is far more intense than normal menopause as you have lost all of your oestrogen production overnight (and some testosterone too which could account for low energy levels). There is an email facility on this site where you can, for a small fee, ask Dr Currie for her opinion. If your GP is so unclued up about  meno it may be worth your while doing this.

Things will get much better now that you have met us lot! There is always someone around to give support and friendship and lots of info in our posts and the menu on the left of the screen.

Oh Anne, poor you.  Yet another useless GP but don't worry, you are not alone on that score!  You are experiencing perfectly normal menopausal symptoms which can be helped by HRT so please don't worry.  If I were you I would try another GP at your practice and don't let them fob you off.  I hope things get better for you soon.

Hello Stroma and welcome to the forum.
Sorry to hear you are suffering so much and although your symptoms are normal they are not inevitable ( my sister-in-law was given HRT immediately after her hysterectomy and she is doing really well ).
Hope you manage to get the better care you deserve.
Take care.
