We have a lot of uncarpeted areas in our house and said I would be better off with one of these instead of using a mop & bucket. She said you only need to pay about £50 for one.
Has anyone got one of these, are they any good?

I bought one a couple of years ago on a shopping channel and sent it back.  It was rubbish.  They make them look so good on these progs don't they?  As DH says it's brown liquid they put down for stains which them immediately disappear with the steam cleaner.  It's not like proper ground-in dirt (as in our house!! ).

What about a Pledge duster?  So long as no one slips

Is that not just for getting the bits up though?
I usually hoover the floor then mop it. I want something to replace the mop.

I've been thinking of one of those for our laminate flooring as we have quite a lot of it. Although it's easier to keep clean than carpet, it's not so easy to keep dust and smear free is it?

But I think I've read that you shouldn't use steam cleaners on laminate floors as it can cause the laminate layer to lift up.

They cause so much condensation. The steam has to go somewhere and its usually the windows.
I used to use mine for cleaning tiles in the bathroom and kitchen. I ended up with water running down the walls.

It does double as a wallpaper stripper though even if you want it to or not.

LOL I wonder if this is a meno thing... I have recently become obsessed with steam mops 

I have done extensive research and spoken to my friends who own one.  The one that is lime green and advertised extensively is according to reviews on various websites 'utter s***e' and the cheaper ones are worse.  Apparently the best one is a well known yellow brand (they also do window vacs) and costs about £300 but they actually don't recommend it for laminate flooring it has to be hard sealed flooring such as stone or tiles.

So on reflection I am going to stick with the hoover and mop method.

I have a vax steam mop, I use it on the laminate and kitchen floor. I like it, it's easy to se and cleans a treat.

I was looking through the Lakeland catalogue in the bath last night and there is a dry mop thingy which may be suitable?

Lol, I'm thinking this steam mop thing might be a menopause symptom ! I've just got a vax bare floor pro ha ha , and loving it, gives me Instant gratification when my floors are steam cleaned !  Like a menopausal woman's sex toy he he
