I read something on here, very recently about removing patch residue / glue with surgical spirit.
I tried it this morning, and it works really well, far better than the recommended baby oil.

Thank you, whoever posted this.

It seems Surgical Spirit is actually NOT a good thing to use to remove patch glue - See last post

Nail polish remover is supposed to work too, not tried it though.

My doctor has really surprised me by giving me a prescription for a product used by people with stomas to get the adhesive off their skin. She put it through and said that she would probably get into real trouble for prescribing it but that she was using me as a test case. She said it costs over £30 a bottle. I haven't tried it yet because I haven't bothered to put any patches on for a couple of weeks. The flushes are returning though so I'll probably start again soon.

Ann - Think that may be Turps - quite different, you get it from builders merchants
Surgical Spirit comes from chemists. It lasts quite well, the bottle I used this morning was purchased from Boots in 1990!   

I suppose Turps could work, but you might smell like oil based Gloss paint!

I don't like surgical spirit because I find it harsh and drying on my skin. I have skin problems anyway with dermatitis on my hands and a generally sensitive skin.
I rub a moisturiser in after I take my patch off and then the next morning I use a body brush in the shower and its gone.

I'me sure you're right Honeyb, but it was so quick this morning.
Just one wipe of surgical spirit and there it wasn't.   
Usually takes me about 10 mins faffing around with baby oil.
Must admit there was a tiny bit of discomfort, but I put that down to the ss being pretty much prehistoric

Oh yes, I am confused! Hubby got me some from garage but think I will try nail varnish remover!

As long as all the glue has gone by the time I need to use that bum cheek again then I am happy. Who sees and who cares......except.

Daughter and I went shopping today. I was trying on trousers and there was my sticky bit, as this morning was patch change day. It gave her a good laugh if nothing else.


I think if it was in the garage it was white spirit. That's for cleaning g paint brushes. Surgical spirit is from the pharmacy counter. It's what they give you when you have your ears pierced.

Ann -yes you could try acetone (nail varnish remover)!
Don't know how well it works, moisturiser would probably be required....

You will make your skin sore. It's not that's it's for occasional use but once or twice a week. Not great I would think.

Cheers, I think I will find ear cleaning solution in the daughters room!! She uses it on piercing!
I have just been trying to pick off the sticky, or hubby does when we are messing around!!!

haha! As I've said before I just leave mine to avoid rubbing ( ) and irritation but if it's that easy with SS then I might have a go....

I think you'll find hairspray on a cotton wool pad will do it too,.
