Blurred, double vision
« on: August 12, 2013, 11:02:00 AM »

Hi everyone

Has anyone experienced problems with their eyesight during all these changes? I'm currently having blurred vision which has lasted about 5 days now. I've had this off and on since meno started, usually lasts a day or two then all back to normal. Had eyes tested and all ok but that was on a day when vision was fine. Is this another symptom as i've not seen anyone mention eyesight problems.

How worrying!  I would ring your optician the next time and ask for a consult.  Could it be blood pressure?

My hubby had problem earlier in the year. He saw optician who had him referred to eye clinic. Turned out he had Posterior Vitreous Detachment, which varied from day to day. Common problem apparently, but nothing sinister. Do get optician to have a look behind your eyes. You may need drops which enlarge the pupils for optician to have a good look.

Is it blurred and double together or blurred sometimes and double vision at other times? Double vision is something that should never be left. I agree that you should get this checked out as soon as possible.

Thanks for your replies.  I'm a bit more worried now than i was before.
Taz - thinking about it, its definitely blurred, not double, i'm not seeing two of everything just feel as though things are not in focus properly. I'm long sighted so i wear glasses for reading and other close work but my long distance is fine. At the moment though my long is nearly as bad as my short.

I had an mri done on my head about a year ago and all was normal, (strangely enough!!), told the consultant then i was having some vision problems but nothing sinister found so i just put it down to another menopause symptom and it tends to only last a couple of days normally.

I'll give my optician a ring tomorrow and make an appointment asap.
Thanks for your help, let you know what happens.

I agree that you should get this checked.

Have you started using a new mascara or eye/face cream. I had one eye cream that slowly melted and went into my eyes leaving me with fuzzy vision.
The makeup wipes that I am using at the moment are doing the same. I mentioned it to my daughter and she has the same thing. She pinches my stuff.

Could it be something you are putting on your face.

Hi honeyb

Definitely haven't used anything different on my face and just as i'm about to make appointment with optician its cleared again believe it or not!! As i said it comes and goes and i've only had it since starting menopause. I'm wondering if its eye strain but you'd think it would be fine after a good nights sleep wouldn't you?  I may make the appointment anyway and see what optician thinks.

Thanks for your help.

Not saying it's this Delilah, but check it out.

My Hubby's would vary from day to day, but because he managed to get an appointment with optician quickly, they were able to see what was going on.

Delilah make that appointment.
If there is something wrong it will still be visible to an optician, even if you can't feel anything untoward.
The thing is get it checked

I think blurred vision can be a meno symptom and as I type am having to wipe one eye.  I wear contact lenses, but even changing my monthly pair more often (2-3 weeks) is not solving the problem for me.  My eyes feel blurry especially first thing and I know I am on pc too much - 5 hours at work, facebook and on here most days but am having increased hot flushes so I think the eye problem is mostly a meno symptom for me.  As someone said in another discussion, pregnancy can affect how comfortable contact lenses are and I think meno must be same - makes eyes drier, probably whether you wear contact lenses or not.

Delilah...I had terible blurred vision as a main symptom of meno, along with all the other symptoms.  It just came on me out of the blue.   I used to sit in the car and think, "I used to be able to see all these street lights individually, now they are just a blur".  I noticed I could not see the newspaper as well either.  I got a bit obsessed by it because my vision changed so suddenly.   Went to optician, who told me my (mild, short sighted) prescription had not changed in a year.  It's something to do with estrogen and the optic nerve muscle..and natural ageing.   :P  It settles down, I never think about it now.  Get a check up by the optician, get cleared, forget about it and don't worry  x

Hi again

Well had my check up at opticians yesterday and despite my vision still bothering me all was fine. Optician said optic nerve looked normal, pressure ok and no difference in my prescription. She did however try to persuade me that my long sight could be improved with more glasses. I have to say I've never had a problem with my long sight, i can see a pin a mile away and read the smallest letters on the bottom line no problem. She seemed to think my eyes were blurred from struggling to see further away.  I even explained i was having lots of meno symptoms and had experienced this problem but only for a day or two before - she didn't think there was a link.  Needless to say i decided not to buy another pair of glasses and am going to wait a few more weeks and see if things settle down on their own especially after reading sweetpea and lily's posts too.

Thanks again for your help everyone

Me too, I put it down to getting older  :(  . No change in my script just need to wear the glasses a lot more, doesn't seem right to me. If I notice it more, surely my sight has changed ?
My long sight is still good as well.
Who knows....

I feel like I can't see as well when my eyes are really tired, but it passes and they are fine again later.  Weird.
