I have this cycle taken my utrogestan 200 capsule at bedtime (and have slept wonderfully!!)
however the last 2 days I've taken it during the day.

Don't know if its a coincidence, or the heat, or a cold I'm just getting over - but a couple of hours after I've taken it I have felt quite dizzy and spaced out. Lasts about half an hour I would say. It feels quite nice  but I'm just a bit worried....I have heard it has a sedative effect on some people and just wondered if this was how it was for them?

I didn't have this problem last month when I took it.

Don't want to stop it as I am intolerant of synthetic progesterone and the utrogestan is working well for me.

Any similar experiences? thanks xxx

I think they recommend that you take them at bedtime as they make you sleepy. Why did you change? If they work well for you then go back to taking them at night.

I use mine as a pessary so no side effects.

I don't know why I changed Honeybun, apart from I knew we had stuff on these last couple of evenings what with my youngest leaving primary school LOL.
Think I will go back to night times as I was sleeping like a baby!    x

I use them vaginally at night so never have any problems - except I sleep well and am tired in the mornings on Utrogestan (well I'm tired in the mornings all the time now so not sure whether utro has anything to do with it!).

Anyway the French SPC leaflet (Summary of Product Characteristics) I got from the manufacturers gives vaginal use as an option for those who suffer side effects such as dizziness so this is normal. Here's what it says:

4.8 Undesirable effects
Oral route

- Drowsiness or transient sensation of vertigo occurring 1 to 3 hours after ingestion of the product.

In this case,
+ Reduce the dosage per dose,
+ or change the dosing schedule (for example, for a dosage of 200 mg/day, take the 200 mg in the evening on an empty stomach before going to bed) ;
+ or use the vaginal route.


I'm going to try to attach them as I think they would be useful for others too - looks like there is an attachment option below the post. Never tried this before.

Here goes.... well I don't know how to do it as it doesn't tell me how!

It would appear I am a text book case having read your extract above (thanks for that x)
It is indeed around the 3 hour mark I feel a bit dizzy, although it is transient.

I went back to taking them in the evening, and had no problems.
As a test, I took one yesterday at about 5pm, and sure enough round about 8pm I felt a bit swooshy for a few minutes. Am satisfied now that its nothing to worry about

By the way - I am declaring utrogestan a wonder drug!
Awful awful bleak times on other progs, so much that I was considering foregoing prog altogether my symptoms were SOOOOOO bad...
Now I can protect myself by taking the required progesterone that my body needs, and feel fine whilst doing it!

So very very grateful for finding this site and learning that utrogestan exists - and for all the brilliant supportive advice I've had while going through the bad times on the synthetic progs!!!
