Like morning sickness
« on: June 23, 2013, 12:55:20 AM »

I know that I have posted on this before but do you relate to this horrible symptom.  I almost dread the mornings waking up with this nauseous feeling. I have some stemetil tablets and my own travel sickness tablets and after an hour or two it usually wears off.  Who would have thought menopause could be so horrible.  I have met a few other women out and about who have been badly affected but some women seem not to be and are functioning a lot better than me, how strange.  One lady I know said that her HRT had seen off the dreadful nausea she felt and could not put up with.

That sounds awful - at least with morning sickness there's a happy reason for it!! I can't say I've experienced anything near as bad as you've described, but I do feel faintly nauseous most of the time at the moment (which is what morning sickness was like for me anyway, as far as I can remember back 21 years!), and have for quite some time now. Mostly it's just a nuisance though, it's not debilitating - nor, sadly, is it making me eat less!! Have you spoken to your doctor about it, Meg?

Low blood sugar!  Have a packet of biscuits by the bed and if you wake in the night for a toilet break then have one on your return to bed.  If you wake and can't go back to sleep, nibble a biscuit.  We often wake due to hunger or thirst - bananas can help too.  I had that for YEARS and it was a BAD start to my day  :'( ..........

It was HRT that made me feel sick. It was terrible, exactly like pregnancy sickness. I lasted 11 days on that tablet.

Not sure if this helps. You're not imagining it.

Tilly, thanks.  A lot of docs dont seem to understand the nausea issue, (or much else about menopause for that matter).  My own doc said she had not heard of it and I should change practice I know.  She should google it and visit this site but thinks she knows it all, ha ha.  She hasn't hit menopause yet so that should be interesting!

Nausea in the mornings was one of my symptoms before I started on HRT. It was horrible. I even sat with the travel sickness bands on my wrists whilst trying to drink a cup of tea.

Hi meg

I also get nausea, it only lasts 2/3 days every month though and wakes me up about 7ish.  Strangely though it only lasts whilst I'm lying down, as soon as I get out of bed it disappears.  Must be very unpleasant for you if its all day long. Has your gp prescribed anything for you to take.  Antihistamines help with nausea so that may be useful for you if you can take them.

Hope things improve for you soon.

Take care

Hi SuziQ

How long did the dizziness last for you?  I've had it for nearly a year now, thought it was side effects of antideppresants but no, when I'm having good weeks it almost disappears then when I'm not so good it comes back with a vengence.

Be good to know how long this is likely to go on for.

Thanks suziQ

Its a comfort to know its not just me, sorry to hear you've suffered with this too though. 2 years eh?  i've tried stemitil, they didn't work so now i've got cinnarizine  but they were making me feel a bit peculiar, more peculiar than usual that is!  Had an mri as one side of my head felt strange as well, all normal, as normal as it can be anyway.

Well at least i know it doesn't go on indefinitely, just another symptom to add to the ever increasing list.

How do you manage to stay so positive, you always sound so chirpy. I've never been a negative, cup half empty person before but this trek through meno certainly drags you down. Any tips ???

Thanks Suz for your advice, I could do with losing some weight although probably cant cut out dairy, mum had osteoporosis so wouldn't want to risk that.  Might think about chiropractor though and see what help they can give.  The cinnarazine do actually work but I know I'm daft in that I didn't want to add more meds to the mix!! I'm feeling quite well at the moment and once again the dizziness is a lot better, strange how when I'm feeling particularly rough the diziness is at its worst.

Oh well its all trial and error I suppose, I wont say I'm getting used to all these ups n downs but it doesn't surprise me anymore when one week is good and then next not so good.

Thanks for your help.
