urgent advice please
« on: June 20, 2013, 09:13:30 AM »

Hi ladies,

I originally posted with crushing anxiety in the beginning, but after being put on evorel 75 and having a mirena coil fitted I have been relatively panic free with only cyclical anxiety.

I am also taking fluoxetine 20mg, and have diazepam in case of emergencies.

my problem is that I am going on holiday to Vegas on Friday with DH and both my boys (19 & 16) and guess what starting on Tuesday evening I had a full blown panic attack, we were at my younger sons prize giving and I had a melt down, missed the whole thing my son was getting a Dux award as well :'(. anyway came home took a Diazepam and within 20 mins was fine.

Woke at 4.30am on Wednesday and that was me anxiety all day, my niece was supposed to come and do my nails for going on holiday but guess what had to cancel, another panic attack another diazepam , I also took a sleeping tablet and had 9 hours blissful sleep.

I have woken this morning feeling slightly better , but everytime I think about going on holiday I can feel the panic building, it is a long journey and wondered if any of you wonderful ladies could give me tips as to how to get through it, I have telephoned my GP as well to see what her advice would be with regards to the Diazepam.

I have tried Passionflower and Bachs rescue but they don't seem to help, I know once I get there I will be fine, I have never had a fear of travelling before but I had a panic attack on the plane last year, which was the beginning of the peri. (I am 46 by the way).

I am frightened I am going to need the Diazepam more and more :(

Another thing is I have noticed that I am having more and more top to toe flushes

Sorry to hear this. I know how it feels but how to deal with it is another matter. I think you are best to talk to your GP and see what they can advise.

I am off to the GP this morning for anxiety.

There are a lot of us in the same position.

If you know you will be OK once you arrive, then take the Diazapam with you and use it before the attacks begin.  Initially I was advised 5mg 3 times a day.  What did you GP suggest?  Have you been to Vegas before?  I am often better with new places as there is a sense of excitement.  ;)

Sorry about the attack during your Son's Prize giving, such a disappointment for you.

Tink I feel so sorry for you and do know how you are feeling.
I don't fly now because of health reasons, but boy oh boy did I used to get myself worked up in the run up to holidays. :'(
Then I bought an iPod and downloaded the Paul McKenna ' Fear of flying', and amazingly it helped me a lot....I also took Diazepam before and during the flight.
Also do mention your fear to the flight attendants when you board the plane.

I'd take the diazepam.  If you only take the diazepam when the panic is bad then you should be fine.  that's how I have taken it and it really helps me.

Yes I agree with pj......it works well when you just take it as needed...
For instance ,if you took it everyday .....it would loose it's affect...
Keep it for the times when you know you will be stressed. That way you know you have somthing for the stressful times eg: flying.

hi ladies GP suggested taking Diazepam 2 x 2mg in morning and then topping it up as needed until I get there.

I keep trying to tell myself its excitement because I haven't been before, I know its my hormones because it always happens around this time of the month.

GP also suggested taking a sleeping tablet tonight to get a good nights sleep.

CKLD I know you like the Bachs rescue remedy, how many sprays do you use I have tried the recommended 2 but to no avail  then I tried 5 sprays onto the tongue but no help am I using it correctly

Hi

It sounds like anticipation anxiety to me...  I suffer exactly the same thing  :(  Rescue Remedy is fine for most things but for flying I have Diazepam.

You are not alone in this but I know this is not a comfort.  Try to enjoy yourself I would love to go to Vegas  :)

Remember that the panic will pass and it is not harmful to your health even though it feels awful.

I used 3/5 sprays on the tongue and up to now, haven't required any more.  Knowing that I have used it helps.  But I would take it every hour if necessary.  However, if youa re flying it probably isn't allowed !  :-\
