Blip, Symptoms Blip, Blip Symptoms SWEAT
« on: June 18, 2013, 07:50:51 AM »

Didn't sleep much last night so if this doesn't make a lot of sense then I apologise.......
Last night I had the most awful night sweat...it felt as though I had wet the bed! Scary, scary and stupid really as why did I think I wouldn't get these?? What makes me SPECIAL? Just boring old me....Huh?
Thought I had got off light with this Menopause lark and just everyone else was suffering , well Mrs Menno Pause had the last bloody laugh and decided to teach me a lesson this year and decided its about time I experienced a bit of choppy weather......been sailing through for the past 7 or 8 years with just very erratic periods that were so light as to be Panty Liner catered for BUT this year well I sympathise with EVERY woman on this planet.
Fear, worry, anxiety, night sweats, problem sleeping, loss of appetite which did worry me,  but why as I know I dont want to eat when I'm anxious, on and off constipation, hot burning feeling in vagina - and thats ALWAYS at night......WHY???? Spots, warts and blackheads, gastric disturbance, elbow ache, leg ache, tingly shoulders and  neck itching, teeth ache, feet which do feel weird, muscle twinges, mood swings, palpitations, NO LIBIDO, no sex for what must be nearly 10 years and thats just for starters- in fact I think in the past few months I have experiened - or will be - EVERY single symptom listed
This post probably doesn't make that much sense but "writing" it helps me....and makes me think that this IS the peri menopause and one morning I will get a good nights sleep, no sweats, and just be normal instead of a jelly like mess.
No one I can ask really, don't go to the Drs as my Mother was a hyperchondriac and I'm the opposite - White Coat Syndrome sufferer ( she was always unwell in her head and is no longer with us)
So ladies you are my sounding board, willing or unwilling ears.............
Oh and forgot to saythat I am single handedly keeping the "alternative" remedies market afloat......I hope they are all suitably grateful

Love it grumpyandIknowit  it does get better, sort of, we are creatures of estrogen and do need it. Perhaps you should bite the bullet and visit

Your GP she/he will probably be glad to see you :)

Oh Grumpy, I could have written this post  :(, it's certainly natures practical joke on us, I find I'm actually a little better when my periods are missing for a couple of months.
I've just been through a bad phase, I started with this breathing thing I get, where I feel I need to keep taking gulps of air because my lungs don't feel full, then just as that was going I had anxiety, then palpatations, oh and itching. Luckily for me (I've only been married a year) I still have a very good libido  ;). I don't have "sweats" but I do have the intense heat thing, where it feels as if there's a heater inside me radiating out, i mostly get these at night.
I havn't been to the doc about hrt, as i don't think i can have it, I have gallstones, and from what I've read you can't take hrt if you have them.
So any ideas would be very welcome, I also have an intense phobia about taking any medication at all, I just about manage 1 paracetamol when i have a bad headache.
Oh the joys eh lol

Hi there

grumpy - I agree with silverlady - you need oestrogen. Even if the symptoms lessen eventually you will never be the same again - none of us are - but at least you might be able to cope and ward off long term problems. Can't see what the whitecoat thing has to do with going to the doc about HRT? Usually that is associated with heart-rate and blood pressure which becomes artificially high in those with the syndrome. As it sounds like you have found - alternative remedies do not work long term - they may do in the beginning due to placebo effect or coincidence but sounds like it's time to get along to the doc. No need to suffer!!

joyce - I imagine the gallstones problems only occur with oral HRT, because tablets are digested and metabolised through the liver. This is what it says on this site about Gallstones and HRT:

Gall Bladder disease
HRT has been shown to increase the risk of gall bladder disease, particularly gall stones, thought to be due to an effect on bile composition. Transdermal (patch or gel)HRT is usually recommended with a history of gall bladder disease.

Re medication - fortunately HRT isn't medication - it consists of replacing deificent hormones. If you want to keep this as natural (as possible ie don;t like taking anything artificial then the bio-identcical hormones on the NHS are not synthetic - well they are made in a lab but identical to what is in your body. So in this case you would have transdermal oestradiol (patch or gel) along with micronised progesterone ( available as Utrogestan). These are usually taken orally and I'm not sure whether the above recommendation (re gall bladder disease) refers to progesterone as well or just the oestrogen part6 of HRT. Utrogestan can be used vaginally - and can be prescribed this way by a specialist.

Why not go along to your GP and let them know your symptoms and your fears, and what you would like to try, and if they try to fob you off with something you are not happy with ask to be referred to a menopause clinic - hoping there is one in your area!

Hope this helps
