You'll have to get himself to try this way of cooking an old chicken next time CLKD. My mum used to be a dab hand at cooking "stewing chicken" as she called any chickens over a year old http://www.waldeneffect.org/blog/Traditional_way_to_cook_an_old_chicken/

We had chicken on Friday. It was very tender but probably not as tasty as your tough one! Mind you it was only three months old I guess!

Thanks.  This was a registered Bluebell, a large breed that we bought for eggs, they don't lay all year round like the hybrids did.  When we were left with 2 healthy birds and when our circumstances altered, we culled both - her sister wasn't tough at all.  Apparently a soup is in the offing  :-\ - I will suggest that he puts it into the slow cooker  ;D

Just had full Sunday roast - chicken, potatoes, carrots, red cabbage and gravy, followed by strudel and custard.  I love getting back home to the smell of a roasting joint!

Slow cooked lamb shoulder, cauli cheese, roast swede, roast spud for other half, broccoli, carrots and green beans. Dinner plated up for himself for tomorrow as I'll be pub quizzing.

DH does the culling.  None left now.  We bred rabbits for the table years ago, crikey over 30 years ago  :o - the adults had named but I couldn't be bothered giving names to 11+ baby bunnies  ;D

This evening DH put 2 pasties into the microwave, heated them through to Very Hot - now stuffed  ;)

Not really, it's in and out quite quickly and it's going to be flakey when cut  ;)
