Had enough.........
« on: May 21, 2013, 11:16:41 AM »

 :'(

Been on HRT for over a year...........

Went from one to another with no success - whilst symptons went, the downside is the periods it caused and associated PMT symptoms..........

Constant throat issues, swollen glands are all taking it's toll.

Went from femoston conti which seemed to do the trick but kept bringing on bleeds to now Angelique which I can't tell is doing me any good or not as feel so flipping fed up..............

Think I will go to my gp and ask to be referred to a meno clinic...............

Have had two bouts of tonsilitis this year already and today I am unable to work because my throat is swollen and I feel sick.

100% fed up.............

You poor thing. There is nothing worse than feeling so low and not knowing what the solution is. Think it's a good idea to get a referral to meno clinic this menopause lark s such a broad subject and seems to produce so many symptoms, it will be good to just talk it over with someone who has specialist knowledge.

Sending hugs and hope you're feeling better soon.

Hello Londongirl

Sorry you are feeling so down.  It seems a never ending journey to regain a positive health state, doesn't it.

A curved ball ...... could your constant throat issues be caused by emotional problems.  It has been suggested that regular through issues can be connected with  "Feeling unable to express yourself or your inner self;  Repressed anger.  Emotional hurt swallowed".   Sometimes, other things going on in or lives manifest themselves in physical ways.

You may not wish to respond here if that is the case.  It is only a thought.  If it has some merit, then realising and finding a way to address it can often resolve the problem.

And that ailment may not be linked to the menopause, so your idea of a visit to the menopause clinic is great.   I hope you don't stay too fed up for long x

My Mum always had a bad throat at the end of Term.  Working with kids, constantly talking, the stresses with the job ........

Could you have Glandular Fever?

Thank you all for your lovely replies.

To be honest I am at the end of my tether.

I went to doctors last week who said my throat problems are not meno related but are down to acid reflux so have to go back on omeprazole, which I stopped a while back. I have been on it for years and thought perhaps with starting HRT last year, and initially feeling so good, I should stop the omeprazole.

However, Angeliq - have been on that over a month now and am feeling stressed again, nervous, short fuse, irritable and sick, not to mention a horrible bloated stomach.

So I am going to stop Angeliq and see how I feel .............. I am mildly sweating anyway and feeling ratty so can't tell if it's Angeliq or just me!

I feel like life sometimes is just a constant struggle but am going to try to rest more and see how I feel off HRT.

The doctor I saw last week said Angeliq cannot possibly make me feel sick/down/ill...........however I had read the leaflet today and note that the common side effects are in fact depression, nervousness!

So I will stop the Angeliq and go back to gp and insist on a referral to menopause clinic. My doctors at my surgery don't seem that well informed on HRT/meno and haven't even a clue about any creams which I would now consider.

I did take sertraline for a while for my depression but I came off that as I  was constantly feeling wiped out and lethargic and too unemotional!

On a positive note, my lovely OH has put up with me throwing tantrums, depression, anger, mood swings and is still sticking by me with a smile..............

Thanks ladies

<wave>

only by stopping a medication can we be sure that it is/not causing or making symptoms worse.  Ease off itgently?

Hi Im so sorry to read that you are having such a lots of problems. I wonder if I can help? I have a sliding hiatus hernia/gastritus and I was taking  Ranitadine which suited me much better than the tablet you are taking(made me feel awful) IBS too. What I have done which has been a life saver for me is take out all dairy from my diet. Cows milk is very acidic and can aggrivate and upset your tum by creating more acid, then reflux is more acidic making the throat sore.  Vicious circle if you drink milk to help with problems.
What has hleped me is switching to Goats milk, cheese and butter and also unsweetened soya milk. (Soya Latte is wonderful, my huasband drinks it now if we are out  because he prefers the richcreamy taste) plus you get a little benefit from the soya and its low fat.I use the fresh soya milk at home for cereal and porridge. You can also buy Almond milk, rice milk and dairy free spread. Might also be worth cutting down on wheat for a little while too. I also take twice a day slippery elm in powder form stirred into water, between meals.it helps to protect and line the stomach. These few diet changes have helped me I was in constant pain, had a sore throat, sore mouth, a horrible cough, constant headaches and upset bowels! I dont take HRT, I  dont seem to be able to get on with the progesterone. I hope you feel better soon.

:thankyou: for your informative post.  Slippery elm always bothers me, is it the name or the consistency  ;)

Thank you all for such lovely replies.

Well I haven't taken my HRT today and am going to stay  off it and see how I feel.

Sorry if this  sounds like a stupid question but I do feel mildly better already.............. is it possible that by just laying off the first day,the bad side effects could so quickly subside? I mean that my mood could lift already?

Anyway, if I don't get the horrendous hot flushes again then I think my days of HRT are over!

Fingers crossed!

Little steps.  Try to look half a day at a time.  Get the next 5-7 days out of the way and you will notice any alterations in your feelings.

Hi all

Well I was feeling very low last week and clumsy too! Had a few accidents.... :(

So today a period came on with a vengeance, very heavy....

I don't know if it would have come on if I stayed on the HRT (I suspect it would), so that's it for me now.

All the HRT preparations I have tried have brought on periods and I hate to think what it's doing to my body having been period free for 3 years plus.

I really felt that the mood swings and pmt were getting horrendous so am staying off it for now and if the horrendous hot flushes and sweats come back then I will go back to my gp and ask for a referral to a  meno clinic.

Someone on here has mentioned bi-polar and I honestly was beginning to think I am as my mood swings have been horrendous...........

So, will let you know how I get on

In the meantime, thank you all for your lovely support.
