FemSeven Sequi Happy Patch....
« on: May 19, 2013, 11:00:50 AM »

Hi Ladies
Need advice please. I have been using the FS Sequi now for over a year, I was in a terrible state before hand.,  I:E  Anxiety -Depression -Fatigue Hopelessness, You name it i had it all, like so many women have who come on the site. Which may i add! is very helpful. At the very start of the patches i noticed a rapid change in my mood (GOOD) I actually went shopping for clothes the first week with actual interest, instead of just buying anything and never wearing it. So all was great... However! for the past few months i seem to be declining again. I'm scared to mention it to the GP in case he changes them i Just can not go back to all them emotions again.
I mention HAPY Patch as the subject, The reason being! is that for the first two patches i felt great but noticed a drop on the second two patches. This has gotten worse now has the weeks go on. I get up now in the mornings and my body will not function my legs feel they have heavy weights hanging from them. I am sorry for going on a bit ladies i would appreciate any advice.

damejean I would get this checked out with your GP. I am not sure that increasing hormones should be prescribed until this is sorted out. Heaviness in the legs can be caused by lots of things.

Hi damejean

If you are feeling rough on the second two patches then it could well be that the synthetic progestogen in this type (levonorgestrel) disagrees with you but as silverlady says I would just get this checked out re your legs.

The other type of patch is Evorel sequi but the progestogen in this one - norethisterone - also causes side effects in some women eg headaches and pmt symptoms. However we are all different so could be worth a try.

However if you want to minimise the chances of an adverse reaction to a synthetic progestogen, then you could go for separate oestrogen patches (eg Estradot which are really small) and bio-identical progesterone ( ie the same compound which we produce naturally) - known as "micronised progesterone" marketed as Utrogestan. These come as oral capsules ( not tablets exactly) filled with a suspension. Any progesterone is not without some sort of side effects but you might find the common ones for this (tiredness mainly) more tolerable.

How were you on the second half (two weeks) of your natural cycle - did you feel like you do now or did you just get a few days of pmt just before your period?

Do not worry about going back to the GP - he should not change them for something you don't want. Read up a bit about it and go along with your choice and what you think.

If we can help any more please ask

I've been on the FemSeven Sequi for two and a half weeks, I definitely felt better on the first 2 patches (Oestrogen only).  I've noticed the past few days (since starting the Phase 2 projesterone/oestrogen patch that I've not felt quite as good.  More tired and mood not quite as good.  This is how I was before I started the patches, so maybe it's still the effects of my natural cycle.  I'm going to monitor it.  Had a bit of "edge curling" with the patch again today as well.

Thank you ladies for your replies, i have taken on board your advice.
I have just made appointment too see the GP. Sorry too hear LIZ that you feel as
you do on the second phase of the patches. This is something i am going to discuss
with the nurse. Its got me worried as i have had unbearable heaviness in both my legs
and a feeling their on fire. The only other Meds i take are the satins  I did have the heavy feelings in my legs the last time i took them so i stopped, but i had to start them again due to the cholesterol being so high. To be honest i have never been the same since the MENO changed me.
Again thank you xx

I was on Femseven Conti but swapped back to Sequi - even though it will give me bleeds again - because the constant progesterone in the conti made me feel horrible. This way I only feel rubbish for two weeks out of four instead of all the time. Not ideal but better than nothing at all.  I should add that I have always had really bad PMT so am used to feeling tetchy, crampy and tired for the last ten days or so of every cycle. That was one good thing about getting further into meno - those horrible feelings went only to be replaced by HRT-induced ones  ;D

Hi ladies
I'm new to the forum but I am having the same problems with progesterone, I'm now on my forth change, I started with elleste conti tabs then switched to conti patches then I went onto sequi patches and I have just swapped again to femseven sequi patches but I feel low, anxious and generally uninterested in anything on the progesterone phase. Does anyone have any advice, the hrt also messes up my digestive system?
Thanks

Hi Shellb

If you check out Hurditys earlier post regarding the utrogestan then that might be the way forward for you. Most of us seem to tolerate patches better than pills if you have digestive problems.
How far into meno are you. It seems strange that your GP was switching you from a conti regime and then a sequi and back again.

Hi honeyb
I've not gone back to conti I'm still sequi, I have been using hrt for around 9 months now but my symptoms started around 2/3 years ago, I'm also on citalopram for dep & anx too so sometimes I feel awful like I'm starting a breakdown but I work hard to stay positive, I think this has been worse since onset of meno, I had bood tests about 10 months ago which confirmed it.
Thanks

I'm just about to start a new topic about how I'm finding Utrogestan - I had the same problems before.
