Hello everyone, I'm new and scared
« on: April 26, 2013, 06:37:37 PM »

Hi, my name is Claire. I'm 42 years old. My periods started to go wonky just over a year ago and I've been on a downward spiral since. I have some night sweats. Not so much hot flushes, more a feeling of intense pressure rising from my chest. I get so scared when this happens because it feels like my head will explode. Totally convinced every little ache is some horrible disease  :(. Lost complete interest in everything, even my gorgeous family. My mum had completely gone through menopause by the age of 46 so I'm positive that's where I'm heading too. Had an ultrasound last November which showed a few tiny fibroids "of no consequence". Just fed up of feeling so yuk all the time.

We've just moved to an area where I don't know anyone so I'm really looking forward to making some shiny new friends on here  :)

Hi Claireylou

Welcome to the forum.

Have you spoken to your GP about what's going on. You could be a candidate for HRT. You are having an early menopause by the sounds of things. Of course the choice is personal and some choose to go down the alternative route.

Look around and join in....lots of info....laughs and friends.

Hi honeybun. Thank you so much for replying. First time I've smiled for ages ! I'm terrified of anything in a white coat  :o,. I didn't tolerate birth control pills at all so not sure I'd be good with hrt. Just want to feel normal again  :'(

Oooooo normal I remember that....I think  ;D

At 42 you really should be replacing the hormones that should be yours. They help prevent VA osteoporosis and heart problems.....and can make you feel a whole lot better.

Have a look at the green menu on the left and that will give you an idea of what is available.

I was older than you when meno really reared it's head. 48/49. I am on patches and although not perfect keep a lot of symptoms at bay.

:welcomemm:  men in white coats are much more handsom these days, because we are older  ;)

Jot down a list of symptoms and make an appt with the Practice Nurse/GP at presumably, your new Surgery?  You don't have to have any treatment until you are certain of all the options - as suggested, reading the menu left of screen will be helpful!

Normal, what's that?  ;D

I've been grateful for HRT. Useless without it. Been trying to gradually come off it, but dreading the final step. GP suggested in view of other things which have been going on recently in my life, that now wasn't a good time. Who was I to argue?  ::)

Don't worry ......... make sure that you and the GP/Nurse go through your list.  Make a double appt if necessary  ;)

Hi Claireylou!

I could have written most of this post myself!  ;D ;D

in particular, I too had the feelings of pressure like my head was going to explode!!! - what was THAT all about?  :o really scary!!!

I've found this forum great since I stumbled across it late last year, I don't come on often, but the ladies here are so knowledgeable!!

I also am fairly new to an area where I don't know many/any in fact! other ladies my own age who are going through this so do feel isolated.  Its hard to meet new people when your kids are older I find.

Hi Suzi Q,

Thanks for replying. I have tried almost all the mini pills available in my 20's and 30's but could never find one that agreed with me. My body doesn't seem to cope well with synthetic hormones.

I'm a full time carer for my elderly parents so I don't get much time for myself but they gave me a wonderful upbringing and I want to be there for them now they are in their twilight years.

I'm sorry to babble on. Just feel a bit out of my depth at the mo. I'm normally the most capable peron I know but just lately I look in the mirror and see a jibbering wreck. Every little pain is some unheard of obscure disease.

Hi Clovie,

Thanks for replying. I feel a little bit less alone when you lovely ladies respond and, although its awful to hear others suffering, it does help to know I'm not going completely insane ...well ... Not yet anyway  :)
