Vaginal atrophy
« on: April 14, 2013, 07:12:07 PM »

Perhaps this has been covered before but I had a wee search and couldn't find anything .
I read in another forum of the successful use of Carlsons Vit E suppositories for this condition one of the posters also said that she empties the contents of a DHEA capsule and rolls the e suppository ( which is oily)  in the contents and inserts it claiming that it helped greatly with this condition
I suffer from this too and (although not sexually active as was discussed before in a previous thread ) I get like sharp pains like being cut at times , so very dry ..I do use Vagifem but feel its not enough to keep moist

My question to you knowledgeable Folk ..
Have any members heard about the use of the capsule with this suppository - and also what is the benefit of the DHEA either oraly or in this way ? x

Thanks for response , I don't think I'd try DHEA without medical advice I just wondered in any other members had tried this combination , I certainly hadn't heard of it used in this way , I know its available in various health food stores but used as a suppository is not advisable I would think ... I can recommend the Carlsons E suppositories they really are good and safe IMHO  :)

Your GP has got it wrong though - it is recommended for long term use as it is such a low dose of oestrogen. Even on the higher dose I needed both that and full HRT to stop the soreness and the razorblade type pain. I hope you get something sorted soon. Don't be fobbed off with the "not for long term use" excuse though. It used to be that you were advised to have a break every few months but the company changed their advice on this and then they dropped the dose so it must be safer than ever now!

Get the info on the net and print it out and take it with you
Explain that you dont need to feel this pain if he poo poes it do what my pals did
She said imagine everytime you peed you felt it was like broken glas
Imagine your testicles aching and throbbing 24/7 with a red hot feeling over all the area
Her GP gave her Vagifem asap that very day and a rpt for 4 boxes

This is a link to what my original post was about , its seems to say that DHEA is  suitable to be used in that way , and will help the Vaginal walls by strenghtening them .
You know I am tempted to try although would discuss with doc first
Appreciate members thoughts on this after reading
http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/druginfo/natural/331.html

I somehow don't think my Doc would listen to me or even read anything i take along , none of them have any sympathy for the females problems post menopause ...
And I suppose as I don't need moisture for intimacy as there is none available I shouldn't be pushy and keep asking , I am not likely to need a moist vajay any more anyway sadly  :'(  - thanks all

Hi jubilee

I had a quick look at the link - it's an American site and there is a different healthcare system over there - and everything has to be paid for unlike here - free at the point of care or similar.

Personally I don't see the point of using DHEA - it is a precursor of tesotsterone and oestrogen in the body and it is not possible to determine which it will be converted to.

As Taz says some women need both HRT and vaginal oestrogen to keep things healthy and stop the pain. I use HRT ( patches), together with a vaginal oestrogen (Orthogynest pessaries) and also sometimes I rub on oestrogen cream (Gynest) for a few days when it gets a bit sore.

Look at the menu on the left and you can defo use Gynest cream with Vagifem as it is oestriol which is very weak. http://www.menopausematters.co.uk/local.php

Also I agree with Suzi Q you shouldn't have to suffer just because intimacy not happening - there are all sorts of other problems eg with bladder, infections etc that happen when the oestrogen doesn't work so well and skin and tissues thin out.

Can you find a doc in your practice who specialises in meno/gynae/women's issues?

Yes all my HRT is on repeat (patches, Utrogestan, Orthogynest pessaries, Gynest cream) , although I can't seem to get Vagifem on the same prescription as Orthogynest pessaries as they do the same thing. I use the Vf when I am using vaginal Utrogestan (at night) every 2 months and the Orthogynest pessaries (which I use for most of the time) fall out if I use them in the morning! How could anyone survive if they weren't on repeat? It would be a pain to keep having to go to the doc....

Hopefully everyone else gets everything on repeat too once settled onto the right type?

I am on Vagifem plus Gynest cream to rub on the outside if I get any irritation but my GP will not give me any longer than a 6 months supply as she said she has to see me regularly whilst being on it.  I am not on any other form of HRT.

This regime of 2 x 10 per week of vagifem and once a week with the Gynest cream is working well for me at the moment.
