Bonjour CLKD - it is more difficult when you don't have a grounding in the language CLKD but you will get to grips with it and the translations help make sense of it.   I have forgotten much more than I thought and I have to trawl the memory banks and look bits and pieces up.

JaneR.  I did not know the word for workmen - thanks.

J'aime (I love)    petits croissants      pour le petit dejeuneur (for breakfast).  Especially in France!
However, for me and my weight issue they are quite high in fat so I keep them for special occasions.

I like this French idiom, taught to me by mon prof de français: (bit more 'colloquial' than "it's raining cats and dogs"

Il pleut comme vache qui pisse.

Raining like a cow that's (you get the rest) !

Il pleut comme vache qui pisse.

Very funny.  That could have been used almost every day in Scotland over the summer  :(

I like that expression too Flushtered.  It has a meaning all of its own and always said within a positive context.  May I say though that it should be Joie de vivre.

J'espère que tout le monde a passé une bonne journée en quelque sorte.
I hope that everyone has had a good day in some way.

Merci, FW50.  That's what I get for cheating!  I did put Joie de vivre then looked it up and it said joie de vie!  Maybe my brain has retained more than I thought  ;D

Not cheating at all.  After all, think about it......  When learning something we have reference books and look up on line and do research.  There is nothing wrong with learning something to use here.  I thought it was about learning and using it and trying things out, and not just showing what we already knew?  Well, that's how I am using it anyway - use, try, learn, improve.

I reckon as we go on, most of us will pick up more and try more and learn more.

I was not sure if it was quelques quelque sorte.  I thought singular since it was of some kind rather than kinds.   Anyway, that was my logic.
