About 1" all told.  Chilly wind.  Swirling snow off the rooftops this morning.  Birds busy etc., etc., etc.  ::)

Any advance on the 7" that Shellb has?  Is there a prize  ;D  :medal:

After a break in which it rained for 10 mins. that fine snow is falling steadily.  Again.  No travelling for us tomorrow then.

Not getting mail on a regular basis.  Due to it being stuck where it shouldn't be, trucks stuck etc.  ::)

Yesterday we had the most beautiful icicles which appeared everywhere due to the frozen rain on top of the snow and freezing surfaces. Every fence and gate, and every plank had a frill of icicles along its whole length and every twig and leaf coated in a layer of ice - I've never seen anything like it in my life and doubt I will again! They appeared overnight, lasted the whole of yesterday and this morning ahd all gone as temepratures rose above freezing for the first time for days.

Magical!

I remember when I was about 4 years old, walking with Granny along the lane underneath the snow drift.  The tractor - no plows in those days - had been through taking fodder to the beasts and had left an arch way.  The sun shone through, it was magical.  In Norfolk they have high hedges so the roads are quite low with banks of primroses .......... it took our breath away.

We often had icicles off the roofs when I was growing up.  We used to take bits off to suck  :-X ...... until Dad showed us the moss int he drain pipes but I'm still here  ;D.  Has anyone looked at the BBC News pages for localities to see the 'photos that people have sent in, it can waste a few hours each day  ;D

It's crunchy snow today.  5" outside our house.  Misty.  Dull.  Glad that I'm not getting married today, there are men clearing the paths near our Church for a Service at 1.00 a.m.  ::)

Could that have been the 'Big Freeze' of 1963.  I can't really remember it although I would have been coming up to 7 at the time.  My husband can though.

I can remember that, we went skating on the rivers for weeks and there was a swan stuck in the ice: we fed it bread but I can't remember what happened to it, other than men tried to keep the water de-iced around it as much as possible.  Somewhere I have 'photos.  The school field was flooded and my Dad and another School Master made skates for the kids to tie onto their boots ....... and the milk, anyone remember it in 8th of a pint bottles, stood inside by the fire so that the ice stuck up then melted, YUK! That was the year that blue tits learned to take the foil off the bottles to drink the cream.

Then there was the Winter when "Wales was cut off" - around 1981.  We walked the 5 miles to and from work, which meant dressing in full hiking gear, taking a shovel each, biscuits; up and down two large hills, at times walking over vehicles but we didn't know at the time  ::).  Fortunately after the initial storm the sun shone but as soon as the sky darkened in the afternoon, we headed home again.  I can't remember how long the walk took, I do know that I wouldn't even consider it these days!

We had 4" in early December here ..........

I remember 1981 well. The big freeze.I was heavily pregnant and we lived in a beautiful little cottage and went to visit family in Glasgow for the weekend and the weather was atrocious.when we got back home the central heating heating system had collapsed pipes all burst, all the ceilings were down and because of the concrete floors the water had no where to go so when we opened the front door the water came racing out along with all our belongings,it was like a tap had been turned on in the loft.it had to be the worst Christmas with a three year old we'd ever had I'm surprised I didn't go into early labour too.Luckily we had insurance but I don't think I'll ever forget that one.we were young enough to take it in our stride but god if that happened now!! I don't know how all these poor souls that get flooded year after year cope it must be sound destroying.

A foot of snow here. I was in the red alert area. Had a mini avalanche off the roof last night which took down all 3 of my external lights! Hopefully I will get an electrician by the end of the month. Can't get the car out of the garage. Had a go today with the neighbour but the snow is too deep and I have a 50yd lane to get up before I get to the road. No chance of me being able to clear the lane of a foot of snow! The neighbours have been out clearing the road this morning so cars can get down to the village and out. Guess I am going to be housebound for quite a few days yet. NO tv as the snow has damaged the dish as well! At least I have power! Snow ploughs and gritters have been concentrating on the main roads which I think are now clear. Will have to make an expedition tomorrow  on foot down to the village shop to see if they have any fresh supplies.
On the plus side, I have got lots done in the house! But seem to be eating all the time!

Damp, but the wind chill has gone  :) . Compared to the rest of the country we had at most half an inch of snow and that was very patchy.

Went to the local out of town shopping centre this morning morrisons had no milk no fish and just a few loaves of bread, not that I wanted any I also noticed McDonalds was closed   ???

Oh have a   Daisydot.

Thawing although the teens next door are making a snow-person.  Has anyone looked at the various ideas across the UK on the BBC web-site?

Dull.  Well Kentucky Fried closed recently because they couldn't get chicken  :-\.  Does it say on the Macdonald's site? Maybe lack of staff.
