Snow in parts of the North. 'once again out of their homes'? One has to ask why. Why do LA's allow building on Flood Plains: a HUGE problem down here even when the Environment Authority advises, at great expense to the Tax Payer, NOT to build in those areas: or don't take precautions B4 allowing Plans to be passed - checking river banks and flow-off and how much new builds will slow down water torrents. Also the constant alteration of building over front gardens has a massive effect on flooding Because there is no soak away so rain runs off, into drains that can't cope with extra input.
It happened in our street, built in the 1960s. No problems, rain drained/soaked away. Then 4 new houses, costing £K950 each were built which meant a quarter of an acre garden was paved over. No run off except into a very small drain on their side of the road, which filled into a culvert under the main road allowing water into the drain behind our house. Which filtered into the drains in front of our properties which couldn't cope. I complained LOUDLY and steps were taken!!! At first the building company said that they weren't responsible so I asked them to prove how! because in those 40 odd years the drains had coped.
Cold. Sharp frost. Dark clouds. Could be snow.
