Just driven home from my daughters. Drove through one village and the river has encroached onto the road, fairly deep, but still passable, although the lane which goes alongside the river is closed. No doubt the houses are flooded downstairs. I thought that was bad enough, until I drove through my own village, where the road through it was closed due to flooding. Whenever there is a lot of rain the tanker lorry comes to pump the water from the pumping station there, but obviously that hasn't been enough this time. The houses and the village shop are probably flooded. Next to the shop, a house was built on land that was known to be boggy and had never been built on before. Ever since then there has been problems when it rains heavily. We are fairly near the river. I'm so glad we live live up the hill, though I look at the trees, which are close to the house and wonder how vulnerable they are or more to the point we are when the winds are high. The ground is saturated.
