How can the forecasters know what will happen over the next few months when they can't always get it right a few days ahead?

Well they didn't get it right last week. We were to get 4inches where we live, all we got was a dusting. Daily Express often get it very wrong. Let's hope they're wrong again.

11 degrees C here....winter has reached us!  It has been raining off and on too, but not today THANKSGIVING DAY.  I really like how my frizzy hair behaves in cold weather though.....it seems to reduce by half!!

Forecast was rain. Bright sunshine, cloudless. Yesterday was supposed to be wall to wall sunshine & it was dull. If they can't get it right day to day, how on earth are they predicting 3 months of snow!

There is no way they can accurately predict the weather for the next 3 months, despite what certain publications (I can't bring myself to call them 'newspapers'!) say!  Weather these days is forecast using a vast number of computer models - current conditions, Atlantic pressure systems, the jet stream, etc are all put into the models and they spit out what the computer calculations say will happen ... for a few days, the results are all pretty similar (short-range forecasts are usually not far wrong), then the results start to diverge.  By 2 weeks out, there's very little correlation between the models, and by a month away there's no pattern at all - anything could happen!!!  I have no doubt that those 'certain publications' will wheel out 'worst weather on record' stories every couple of weeks between now and next April (interspersed with consipiracy theories about deaths in Paris tunnels)!!

Dull & dreich!

Sky weather mentioned icy blast from next weekend. Cold is one thing, it's the snowy conditions I don't like. Looks pretty though.

The Daily Express made me chuckle the other day. They had a photo of an icy lake ringed with frost. There was snow on the ground and hoar frost on the trees. The line was "Britain faces weeks of this.." and I thought "Wow! Who would have thought it - weeks of this during the WINTER whatever next"
