No Mrs P, not impractical at all.  I just needed to bash it out with someone.  All suggestions are VERY gratefully received!   :)

bringing her bed and favourite toys is a good sign. He sounds caring. I'm sure the folk bringing food and water also make a fuss of the pets. One of the reasons you'd do that kind of work.

I can't imagine living in Greece and going on hols ...  8)
are you going somewhere cold  ;D

knowing she's safe is the main thing.

Aw, thanks San.

Actually, I'm coming to the UK!  Not so cold at the moment I hear - I hope it stays that way for a while!

Yes, he's a nice man and I'm sure she will be safe there.  Bored but safe!  She's never been shut up like that before so it will be a shock for her but cats are pretty resiliant aren't they?  Certainly being blind doesn't slow her down so hopefully this won't either.

You could try keeping her in doors for a bit. That way being kept in at the cattery will be less of a shock

one of my cats (RIP bless him) was blind. They don't like unfamiliar surroundings as rely on smell a lot.
If you do use the cattery, I'd try to take as many familiar smelling things (beds, toys, some of your clothes) as possible as 3 weeks is a long time.
My main concern with catteries is cats picking up infections from other cats if the cattery isn't careful. I would also take your cat's favourite food along as cats are deeply conservative beasties, especially under stress.

I understand why you are so worried - have you asked if anyone knows any petsitters or good catteries on this site?

I'd personally not leave a blind cat at home (even though they may be happier at home) unattended for that long.
You could also ask on purrsinourhearts.co.uk but being in Greece could mean it's a long shot. Good luck

Our boy never goes to kennels. Nor did our other dog. If we go away he comes too. Obviously that limits us so we stay in the UK.

Our daughter has offered to have him now she has her own home so we could change things. We have a good neighbour who will do day care if needed.

Just like kids aren't they?

OYI you could bring her back a UK toy as her souverneer  :)

Yes, san, I might try keeping her in for a couple of days before we go.  I think they're more of a worry than kids!  Yes, I did think of getting her a pet passport and bringing her over with me - OH just rolled his eyes!!  ;D

Oldsheep, as far as I know this is the only cattery but I will have a look on the expat forum.  I did try, via a local website, to find a kindly person who would take her in and one lady volunteered but unfortunately she lives about a hour away and Musa gets terribly stressed during car journeys so we decided the cattery would be better.  But I will definitely take her bed and blanket and some of my indoor clothes too or my husband's sweaty pillow!! - good idea.

Ah fleurie, you will certainly understand!  Thank you for reassuring me!  I do hope this cattery is OK otherwise it looks as though we will also be taking holidays seperately too!  ;D

We had a dog which brought his owner's worn underpants when he came into the kennels  ::)

My little one was like that last week. We were playing and she jumped off the chair and the next thing she was limping. She was due her boosters that day so I decided to cancel as I knew the vet would have her off for an Xray before I could blink. I have not walked her for a week. She hobbled badly for a day or two but she did not cry when I manipulated it. She is now fine and had her first walk today, and also her boosters  ::)

Hope your little one makes the same kind of recovery.

I think that it's easy for them to jar themselves and it often sorts itself out after a few days.

Happy birthday to him for tomorrow then Mrs P and I hope his leg soon gets better. :)

San, I've read that transferring smells from cats blankets etc. onto their new surroundings can help them feel more comfortable. I'm not explaining that very well. What I mean is, take cat blanket or other soft cloth, wipe sides of cat face frequently with it to get their scent onto it. Then once in the cattery, if you get the opportunity that is, wipe those blankets/ cloths onto the sides of the pen and any other surfaces you can reach so that as your cat walks past them, she will smell famiilar smells.

Because she's blind, perhaps this could really help her feel more comfortable do you think?

Thanks San, yes, I'll do that.

She amazed me (again) today!  We were having lunch at the dining table and she jumped up onto the armchair behind OH and put her paws up on the back of the chair next to him.  She often does this and we laughed which must have encouraged her to be a bit bolder.  Next thing she was balanced on all four paws on the top of the dining chair (which must be all of one inch wide!) like a trapese artist!  Which then, not so funny, permitted her to drop quite comfortably onto the table!!

She is getting so ingenious - I used to think putting things up high would protect them.  Ha!

Hope your boy is getting better Mrs P?
