I heard that but find it unusual that we didn't get to see any other entrants. I'm sure in the past we have seen a few contestants and there has been some sort of voting.
Also I thought this was an opportunity for songwriters to show what they have to offer.

Not sure how they get chosen. I think it's the song that he will sing that gets the vote.
Remember in the 70's it was a bit Englebert v Tom Jones. They always seemed to be on opposing programmes. Englebert was always my preference between the two although I'm not a fan of his.

Think he'll fit in perfectly. Jedward for Ireland again this year. End of the day it always becomes political. So we'll lose before we've even started due to the Euro crisis.

I never thought he had the best voice and is now perhaps a bit after his sell by date.
It has the potential to be more embarrassing than usual

No, but he'll certainly be cheesy enough. Depends on the song. I always though Tom Jones had the better voice myself, but went to school with girls who thought Engelbert was the bees knees

Years ago I used to live just down the road from Englebert's mansion in Leicestershire. He was very generous to local causes and he employed local people as gardeners, cooks, etc and they always spoke very highly of him.

Prefer Englebert to Tom Jones any day. Never could stand Toms gyrating hips, and how he strains his voice. Thank god he's not doing the Eurovision.
Hs anyody heard the song yet?

I think the song is still to be chosen. That's the bit the public get to vote on .... I think
All that hip gyrating and thrusting TJ did made me feel yuk. Last time I saw him on tv he was still doing it! Reminded me of the dad in Steptoe. Dirty old man

I think it is a bit of a joke, never liked either of them my mum was the fan.
Stopped watching eurovision years ago however it might be a laugh this year.
He was a good singer i won't take that away from him, however it is time to hang up the mic.
