Hi Vianne, 'Kind words butter no parsnips'  means when you are trying to win round someone with flattery. A lovely saying that I learnt from my sister.

Hi Dyan, 'Don't look at me with that tone of voice' can be continued with
'It smells a funny colour'!!!! ;D
