Had to have the heating on this past week, especially the last two days, beginning to feel chilly again this morning,  not fair,  especially when we should be saving a little on our heating bills at this time of the year  >:(

Haven't you got a tumble drier LD? I try not to use mine but if it is raining I'm afraid that's what I do.

I don't like using mine either Taz,  not the same is it,  but the washing has to be done so we've no other choice.  Can't stand washing drying all over the house.

It freezing! OH has put jeans on instead of his shorts so it must be cold.

;D LM... snap,  my OH put his old joggers on instead of his shorts today.

He's just nipped to Tesco so I've sneaked the heating on while he's out,  he always complains about the bills  ::)

We lit our wood-burning stove the other evening and will do tonight. It's lovely - really takes the chill off the room and costs nothing as the wood is all from our own trees.  :)
I still think that tumble-drying costs less than all the ironing I would do otherwise - although I accept that may well be wishful thinking!  ;D

Please don't anyone get mad at me, but I just read through this thread and thought - I can't remember when I've seen clothes hung on a line outside in 30 years - honestly.  I was just thinking how nice 'freshly' hung out clothes smelled.  Now you can smell the fumes (fragrant) of fabric softeners walking outside.  I am allergic to them.  Sad, really. :(

Nothing to get mad about Taylor .. I put washing on the line regularly and you cant beat that fresh smell ..especially towels and bed linen .. on wet days I still have a clothes horse (concertina type) ..that I put in the spare room in front of a radiator .. and when I have a quilt cover or sheet I drape this over the banister and it airs in no time ..so downstairs is free of washing and there is only the two of us now..but I have done this even when the children were still at home ..only use tumble dryer when I really have to ...

I always hang clothes out when I can and have one of those clothes airers for the winter. Fits perfectly by the radiator in our downstairs toilet. I do use the tumble dryer to do towels (love the softening effect) and bed linen. Also "finish off" things that would otherwise need ironing. Our tumble dryer is in a small "walk-in wardrobe" (well, extremely small room with a rail!) so it acts like an airing cupboard too.

Taylor I am allergic to fabric softeners too, so always get the unperfumed ones, if I don't I always sneeze my head off when the laundry is ironed ::)

Not that I do it, OH seems to like ironing, that was a suprize ;D

We've had our heating on the last 2 nights, unheard of in August. Where did all those lovely summers go? But here in the West Midlands, even though it has been a very mediocre summer, we have had no significant rain for months. It just seems to pass us by, and we are getting desperate. We have established trees in our garden that are dying from lack of water. The other day my hubby was digging out some stray raspberry canes, and a spades depth down the soil was still bone dry. So while it has been wetter than average elsewhere, it has been the dryest period on record here.
