I knew there was someone who felt the same but I couldn't remember who! Thanks CM.

The best time for me is just before dusk in the winter - one of those crisp early December days. I curl up on the sofa with a cuppa and watch the garden gradually sink into sleep. It's a lovely feeling. In the summer I just don't get that tingle.

Dont you miss being able to go in the garden though?  You seem to spend all your time in the house with the curtains shut, you dont 'see' people like you do in the summer.  Also, with the price of fuel going up again, we sat in the house shivering!  Our local Wetherspoons has a great big fire going in the winter, it will be cheaper to go there!

No I don't miss going out in the garden to be honest. My husband is the gardener and he is always amazed that I just don't notice if the tubs need watering or whether something is in flower. Whereas I find it amazing that he doesn't notice a new type of bird on the feeder or a different sort of insect. One downside of the winter is that I don't have the insects to watch I must admit but the increasing bird visitors make up for that.

As for seeing people - I find that I meet just as many in the winter as in the summer to be honest but I do make use of our own log-fire-local!

I think it is something to do with daylight levels. When I wake up and it's sunny like today - brilliant sunshine pouring in the window - I feel instantly down. I have given some thought to this over the past few years and I have a feeling that if I was living where I long to live - on the coast - and could go for an early morning stroll on a beach or across the cliffs then I may learn to like the summer more but I still feel at ease when the days are short.

I think I must be part reptile. I always sit in the brightest room in the house. The conservatory gets the sun in the afternoon, as soon as the sun goes in there so do I.
A lot of people go away for the winter, maybe you could go away for the summer!  ;D

I love the cosines of winter and I love the summer too, I like hot dry heat and cool nights. As I have gotten older I find the humidity of summer harder to bear. I quite like the rain too :) but I hate wind ???

I have thought about going away for the summer! My friend moved to the Orkneys some years ago and said that I should spend the winter there as it hardly gets light - not sure about the summer though as it hardly gets dark then. It played havoc with her sleep patterns when she first got there.

Even in Aberdeen in the middle of summer, on a clear day, daylight doesn't go completely.

It's been nice and sunny this afternoon (a bit iffy this morning), I've had a very exciting afternoon painting 2 fence panels.

Our summer( West Scotland) has been surprisingly good. I just love the summer with the long days and very short nights. It does not get totally dark until very very late.

I like the winter too, as long as we get the cold crisp sunny days. Its the unrelenting greyness that gets me down. Sun always makes me feel better.

I looked at the online BBC 5 day forecast for our area yesterday - it promised more or less wall to wall sunshine - 'yay'  8) thought I, being as I am on holiday from work this week. Today I checked again as it's looking suspiciously grey outside and the forecast has changed completely to cloudy (and cold!) every day apart from Wednesday!!! How can they change their minds in such a short space of time?!! Ggrrrr  >:(

Just had to put the heating on up here.  It's blooming freezing!  12 degrees & trying to rain.  Most of Scotland was basking in glorious sunshine yesterday 25 degrees.  Today looks like more of the same for them.  Think I might cry!   :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(    No it's no use still freezing!  :(

Im with you there HoneyB ..I just love the lighter longer days .. Its only just gone 7.30pm and its getting dusk like cant believe that our longer summer days are getting darker again already.. I dread the short dark days of winter ..find them so gloomy .. not bothered about sunshine just as long as its lighter and brighter.. I read somewhere that you feel at your best the time of year you were born..probably completely false but I was born late April and thats definetly my best time looking forward to the lighter days..
