I’ve never had arthritis before but think it’s now in my thumb. Pain goes from base of thumb up my wrist at times, but not all the time. Sometimes my nails in my left hand feel stingy too, but not for long.
I’m our church organ/pianist and so my hands get a workout daily! No pain when playing but I can’t sit playing all day 🎶 😂

I would get this looked at. There are various states of OA and the possibility of a tendon over the top of the thumb which may as we age, get stuck and 'click' back into place.

It may be a trapped nerve further up the arm.  I would self refer to a physio. for advice.

Could be a degree of carpal tunnel, which is often caused by repetitive use.

Definitely get it looked at as early treatment can stop it getting worse.

Will that mean a referral, hospital appointment, X-ray or can my own GP diagnose this?

I really don't know about that, but I would think your GP would have a pretty good Idea.

Your GP mayB able to refer U for appropriate examinations.  A physio also.
